Passages from reports
- Crask, Sarah Jane8 Aug 2024Inadequate
West Northamptonshire · NN11 4AR
The provision is inadequate
The childminder continues to care for more children than the adult-to-child ratio requirements allow. This has a detrimental impact on children's care and their learning and development as the childminder fails to meet children's individual needs. When planning group activities, she does not carefully consider the developmental needs for children of different ages, or how she will adapt the activity to ensure it is relevant and meaningful for all children. This means some children, particularly younger ones, gain very little from the activity. Older children's learning is insufficiently challenged to ensure they make good progress.
- Childminder in Devon22 May 2024Inadequate
Devon
The provision is inadequate
The childminder has not made sufficient improvement since her last inspection. Consequently, children's safety and welfare continue to be compromised. Some of the breaches of requirements have already been raised within the last six months. For example, the childminder does not always keep a record of children's attendance or manage their behaviour appropriately or effectively.
- Childminder in Cheshire East3 Jul 2024Inadequate
Cheshire East
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not have a secure enough understanding of how to plan and implement a sequenced and ambitious curriculum. Furthermore, the childminder does not plan well enough for how she will support and extend children's learning. In addition, she demonstrates insufficient knowledge of children's abilities and learning needs. This means that children are not supported to make the progress they are capable of.
- Childminder in North Somerset27 Feb 2024Inadequate
North Somerset
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not do enough to address breaches of requirements that have been raised at previous inspections. Although she has met some actions, she has not addressed the other weaknesses that were identified and further breaches have occurred. The childminder does not deal with weaknesses in practice promptly and effectively to raise standards. Therefore, children do not receive the support that they need to keep them safe and the childminder does not offer them sufficient challenge in their learning. Although the childminder has sought some support from other professionals since her last inspection, this has not had the desired impact. She continues to lack a clear understanding of her role and responsibilities.
- Childminder EY50166712 Nov 2024Inadequate
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not have effective assessment methods in place and has a poor understanding of child development. This means learning opportunities are not planned which build on what children already know and can do. As a result, any learning is incidental. Although the childminder makes an effort to offer toys of interest to children and offers adult led activities, these are often not engaging enough. This means some children rarely sustain engagement in their learning and display unwanted behaviours and become restless. The childminder has suitable expectations of how children should behave, however these are not always followed consistently for children to develop an understanding of safety rules. Young children run up and down the hallway with little or no interaction from the childminder.
- Childminder in Wiltshire6 Jun 2024Inadequate
Wiltshire
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not provide the children with a strong foundation for their future learning. The curriculum has not improved since the last inspection and is unambitious and ineffective in helping children to make good progress towards their developmental milestones. The childminder assesses children's progress and identifies some key areas for development. However, she does not focus on developing these areas or put the necessary support in place to help close gaps in children's development quickly. The childminder does not support children to manage their feelings and emotions. Children are not making the progress of which they are capable and are at risk of falling further behind. The childminder has not focused on her professional development to make improvements to her practice. This means some other areas of her practice have declined, including her not recording children's attendance.
- Jackson, Tedroy11 Oct 2024Inadequate
Lewisham · SE6 1UY
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not have a strong enough knowledge of the early years foundation stage. This means that there are breaches of the requirements that have a significant impact on children's safety, care and learning. The childminder does not ensure that all adults living on the premises are fully vetted and this compromises children's safety.
- Childminder in Liverpool19 Mar 2024Inadequate
Liverpool
The provision is inadequate

- Childminder in Bedford23 Apr 2024Inadequate
Bedford
The provision is inadequate
The childminder provides inadequate care and education for children. She cares for more children than the usual ratios, which leads to a chaotic environment where there is not enough space for children to play. The childminder does not arrange the premises and resources so that children can engage fully in their learning. The number of children the childminder cares for means she does not meet all of their needs effectively. She constantly has to stop tending to one child's needs, such as midway through changing a nappy, to sort out a disagreement between other children. The changing mat on the floor takes up space, which reduces the area for children to play in. This does not help toddlers who are still learning to be steady on their feet, to move safely and they trip over toys.
- Ann Patricia Duffill9 Apr 2024Inadequate
Birmingham · B42 2NT
The provision is inadequate
The childminder has effective systems to keep children safe. However, she is unable to meet the learning needs of all children when making exceptions to the normal ratios. She does not deploy herself and the other adults included in the ratios effectively to ensure that children's learning is supported.
- Childminder 3148441 May 2024Inadequate
The provision is inadequate
The quality of education is weak. The childminder lacks awareness of different ways that young children learn. She adopts a formal approach and planned activities are at times poorly matched to children's capabilities. The childminder is currently caring for more children than she typically would. This has a negative impact on the quality of care and education that the childminder provides. For example, the childminder struggles to meet the needs of four children of different ages simultaneously. She is unable to sustain children's interest in planned group activities and there are times when she does not consider the very youngest children who wander aimlessly.
- Childminder EY50166712 Nov 2024Inadequate
The provision is inadequate
There are significant gaps in the childminder's understanding of safeguarding and child protection. The childminder has a limited understanding of signs which may suggest a child is at risk of harm or abuse. She has not kept up to date with recent changes. As a result, the safeguarding policy and procedures are out of date and do not contain relevant information. The childminder does not have a clear understanding of who to contact if there was a concern about a child. The childminder has poor knowledge of wider safeguarding issues such as risks of radicalisation and extremism.
- Childminder in Cheshire East3 Jul 2024Inadequate
Cheshire East
The provision is inadequate
The childminder has not done enough to address the decline in the quality of the care and education that she provides. Some of the breaches of requirements have already been raised at previous inspections and visits. Despite support from the local authority and other professionals, the childminder has failed to make sufficient progress. In addition, the childminder's knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children are weak. Her poor awareness of risks to children means that she is unable to keep children safe in her care. This has a significant impact on the safety and well-being of children.
- Childminder in Birmingham9 Apr 2024Inadequate
Birmingham
The provision is inadequate
The childminder has a limited understanding of the learning priorities for young children, and the quality of teaching is poor. Although children's safety is given due regard, the childminder does not meet the learning needs of all the children when she applies the exceptions to the normal ratios.
- Childminder in Lewisham21 Feb 2024Inadequate
Lewisham
The provision is inadequate
The childminder and her assistants do not ensure children's safety. The childminder does not adhere to adult-to-child ratios and cares for too many children. Older children are not in sight and hearing of an adult at times, including when eating.

- Childminder in Bedford1 Aug 2024Inadequate
Bedford · MK42 8LS
The provision is inadequate
Children's safety and welfare are compromised. The childminder shows insufficient understanding of her responsibility to meet the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the early years foundation stage. For example, arrangements for monitoring sleeping children are weak. The childminder has failed to implement an appropriate safeguarding policy and cannot explain how she will keep children safe. Neither the childminder or her assistant demonstrates sufficient understanding of the signs and symptoms that could indicate a child is at risk from harm.

need to do better?
7 May 2024 on children's safety. n The childminder does not monitor teaching and practice well enough. Significant weaknesses are not recognised or addressed as they happen. Although there are some plans in place to carry out supervisions with assistants, the childminder does not identify and act on poor teaching and practice in order to promote the interests of children. n The quality of education that children receive is poor. The childminder lacks knowledge and understanding of the different areas of learning, and how children develop. There is not enough regard for supporting children's progress across the prime areas of learning. Consequently, children do not gain secure foundations for their future learning. n The curriculum for children is weak. The childminder has not identified what she intends for children to learn. As a result, the learning experiences that children receive are narrow and do not appropriately sequence their learning. Children
