p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children's welfare is not assured. The childminder does not identify or manage risks effectively to help keep children safe on outings. She does not ensure that children are always within her sight and/or hearing to ensure they are adequately supervised.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children enter the childminder's home and separate from their parents with ease. Children settle in the childminder's care and develop strong relationships with her and with their friends. Younger children settle on the sofa with her to explore a wooden box of toys together, and older children confidently explore a wide range of resources and engage in their play together.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder knows what she wants the children to learn so they can be ready for their next stage in learning. However, the implementation of her intended curriculum is weak. The childminder's interactions with the children are limited. They do not sufficiently support and challenge children's learning or extend their thinking. She does not adapt the adult-led activities to help all children feel involved, especially those who are younger or less confident. The childminder does not liaise with other settings that new children have attended, to ensure she gets relevant information so she can support their learning from the start.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Despite this, older children play well together. They share the resources and talk about what they are making, such as pizza and strawberries. Children use their imaginations well and recreate home experiences, such as making cups of tea, which they offer to the childminder.

need to do better?

n The childminder does not take appropriate steps to keep children safe during outings. For example, she does not supervise all children when she visits soft- play centres. This means that she would not be aware if a child was unwell, lost or upset. The childminder does not recognise the risks of her poor supervision on children's welfare. In addition, she does not consider the potential impact of the ages and number of children that she is caring for when planning outings to make sure she can meet their individual needs and keep them safe. n Following training, the childminder has purchased real and natural resources for children to use imaginatively. However, although these resources are accessible to children, the childminder does not support children when using them, which limits their learning. n Older children enjoy listening to stories and joining in with action songs and rhymes. However, when less confident children speak, the childminder does not

3 September 2024 discussions. n While the childminder monitors the children's progress and identifies their next steps in learning, she does not interact with them well enough so that all children make the progress they are capable of. Children play independently much of the time and the childminder is reluctant to join in with their play and extend their learning. n Children behave well. Older children are kind and form positive friendships as they play together. Young children learn to communicate their feelings and the childminder helps them learn the boundaries. For example, the childminder explains to them not to take toys off the other children and distracts them with other activities. n The childminder encourages children's independence well. Children help themselves to drinks, take their boots off and can dress and undress themselves. The childminder supports parents with potty training and older children use the
