p.1
The provision is inadequate
The premises are not clean, hygienic and well maintained. Some fire-exit routes are not clear. Knowledge of some safeguarding issues is weak. Attendance records are not completed accurately. This means children's health, safety and well-being are compromised.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The childminder does not provide high-quality early years education to all children. The curriculum is not broad and varied. It is not consistently planned to build on what children already know and can do. The childminder encourages children's self- chosen play. However, she does not extend children's learning effectively as play happens. For example, as children interact with different-sized wooden blocks, there is no consideration of how this interest can be extended. Also, how the interest can be used to develop children's knowledge further. For instance, to enhance mathematical learning, such as shape and size. Children do show some level of excitement and enjoyment when the childminder uses games to interact with the children. However, concentration is short lived as children lose interest in this play. This is because play is not purposeful and does not meet children's individual needs and stage of development.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
That said, children appear happy in the childminder's care. They show how they have formed secure attachments and go to her freely for cuddles. Children learn about behaviour rules, such as using kind hands when playing with their friends.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder is not consistently responsive to children's emerging interests. For example, when children play with wooden blocks there is little or no interaction. Children do not receive opportunities to discuss problems they identify. For example, as they question why one wooden block will not fit inside the other. Children do not receive engaging and enriching play experiences that challenge their learning further. n The childminder uses small role-play resources to encourage children to name animals. However, she does not give children time to think and answer her question before she does this herself. This does not support children's early language development. The childminder encourages children to compare the size of the animals. However, children do not understand her request. Toddlers leave the play and wander aimlessly around the room. The childminder is aware of children's next steps. However, she does not try to implement these into the

activities children choose. Play is rushed, unplanned and does not support the needs of all children taking part. n Space for children is restricted due to the amount of excess furniture. Children who use the lounge area before and after school, do not have space to move

26 November 2024 around safely and be spontaneous in their physical development and learning. The childminder does not ensure that floor space is fit for purpose and suitable for the age of children cared for on the premises. n The childminder does not consistently ensure that there are suitable and clean facilities for the hygienic preparation of food. Work surfaces in the kitchen are cluttered with a range of items. The childminder has completed food-hygiene training. However, she does not follow appropriate guidance for safe storage of food. Unclean fresh eggs are stored on the kitchen work surface. Gravy is left to form a skin uncovered in a plastic jug. Cooked pasta is left on top of the cooker hob covered with tea towels. An insect was observed on the pasta in one of the pans. Although this food was discarded and the kitchen was cleaned during the inspection, this does not support children's health and well-being effectively.
p.2
need to do better?
n Additionally, the childminder does not make sure fire-exit routes are consistently clear. For example, a chair, stool, and vacuum cleaner used to hold coats are stored in front of one of the main exit doors. Other items litter these pieces of furniture, such as bags and bedding. There is a bookcase also laden with items, not suitable for children, such as flea spray. The childminder does not identify and remove possible risks to children. Furthermore, attendance records are not completed accurately. n The childminder does not focus on improving the knowledge and skills of all adults working with children. For example, she does not support her assistants to undertake appropriate training and professional development opportunities to ensure they offer quality learning and development experiences for children that continually improves. This leads to inconsistencies in the curriculum implementation and poor quality of care and education for children.
p.3
need to do better?
n The childminder has a sound understanding of safeguarding. However, she has not ensured that any assistants understand the safeguarding policies and procedures in place and have up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding issues. As a result, there are some gaps in knowledge, such as forms of criminal exploitation, including county lines, extremism and radicalisation. This means children that may be at risk of abuse, are not always protected by adults who can act swiftly to keep them safe.
