p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children's safety is compromised. This is because the childminder does not maintain ratios and has failed to inform Ofsted of some assistants working with children. She does not have any fire control equipment in the home in case of a fire. Furthermore, not all people caring for children have suitable knowledge and understanding of reporting allegations made against a person in a position of trust.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Hygiene practices are not routinely followed prior to children eating. In addition, the procedure for safer sleeping is not robust enough to keep children safe. That said, the childminder and assistants teach children about the different types of foods they should eat that are good for them. They supervise children during mealtimes, and encourage them to try and do things for themselves.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder and assistants provide a warm and nurturing approach to help children to settle. Children seek out familiar adults for a reassuring cuddle when they are feeling unsure. The childminder and assistants remind children to listen as they explain their expectations for behaviour, and talk to them about following the rules and boundaries in place. They work with parents to share updates about their child's learning and how their children have progressed in their development since starting with them.

n The childminder has failed to inform Ofsted about people working within her home. This means that the required checks have not been completed by Ofsted to assess their suitability. This puts children's safety and welfare at risk. n The childminder does not have a good enough understanding of the ratio requirements. There are times when the assistants are left with too many children at one time. This compromises children's safety and impacts on the quality of the provision. n The childminder takes some steps to reduce risks within her home. She has appropriate fire alarm systems in place and has carried out risk assessments on the environment. However, she does not have any fire control equipment in case of a fire. This is a breach of requirements. n Not all people working with children have a secure enough knowledge of how to report an allegation about a person in a position of trust to their local authority

safeguarding partners. However, the childminder and assistants attend safeguarding training to help them recognise possible signs of abuse, and they understand how to report any concerns about a child. n Children sit and enjoy meals and snacks together. However, the childminder and assistants do not promote consistent handwashing routines. Children sit and eat their food without washing their hands after playing. This does not promote their

10 December 2024 good health and hygiene. n Arrangements for sleeping children are not suitable. The childminder has not considered the government guidance to keep children safe while sleeping. Children sleep together on sleeping mats and share bedding. This means children sleep in close proximity to each other, and are at increased risk of overheating and spreading infection. n Children enjoy their time at the childminder's home. They explore different activities to develop their awareness of numbers. For instance, children count how many objects they can place into their sorting bucket. The childminder praises them for the correct answers. This helps to develop children's confidence and self-esteem. n Parents state that the childminder and assistants are caring and provide their children with opportunities to develop their confidence. They comment that their children enjoy coming to the childminder's home.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children build on their communication and language skills through discussions and listening to stories. They repeat familiar phrases from the stories they hear when the childminder reads to them. Children excitedly talk about what they see in the story and repeat the different animal sounds, developing their vocabulary. n The childminder and assistants take children out into their local community, to help them develop their social skills as they meet other people. Children enjoy being physically active as they climb and explore in the soft-play centre. This helps children to develop an awareness of the world around them.
