Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Inadequate

p.1

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not ensure that risk assessments are effective, to identify and remove potential hazards to children's safety. Although a related action was raised during a previous inspection, the childminder has not sustained any improvements made in this regard. Repeated breaches of the safeguarding and welfare requirements have a significant impact on children's safety.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not plan effectively to support children's engagement during daily routines. As children wait at the table for their snacks/meals to arrive, they become bored and disruptive. They receive very little support to learn about the impact of their behaviour on others.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Overall, the childminder knows the children well and identifies areas in which children need additional support. However, she does not implement the curriculum effectively to achieve the aims for individual children's learning, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Children who need support with their communication and language skills do not have consistent opportunities to extend on what they know. This is due to variability in the quality of adults' engagement and interactions with them. These weaknesses in practice hinder children's progress from their starting points.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Parents state they receive regular feedback from the childminder regarding their children's time at the setting. Children are generally happy during times when they benefit from positive interactions from adults. However, the variability in the quality of interactions means their personal, social and emotional needs are not met consistently.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder does not ensure that all those who work with children have a secure understanding of safeguarding issues and the procedures to make referrals. This means they are not equipped to follow the required processes, to keep children safe, should any concerns arise for their welfare. n The childminder does not take all reasonable steps to promote children's good health and hygiene. She does not provide suitable facilities to minimise the risk of cross contamination, particularly during handwashing routines. This does not support children's early understanding of hygiene practices. n The childminder does not complete effective risk assessments to ensure that materials that may pose a potential risk to children's safety are kept out of their reach. These weaknesses have a significant impact on children's safety. n The childminder and her assistants do not provide consistent opportunities for

9 December 2024 learn to regulate their behaviour. They are not prepared well for the next stages in their learning. n The childminder has had training in relation to managing children's behaviour and in relation to risk assessments. However, she has not made effective use of training to raise the quality of practice adequately, and to meet the requirements in this regard. These weaknesses have resulted in repeated breaches of requirements. n The childminder provides some sensory learning experiences for children, which stimulates their interest. Children learn to mix flour to make a snowman. Children who are reluctant to engage in messy play give it a go when the childminder places a small blob of flour in their palm and shows them how to make a ball. However, on other occasions, such as when children explored paint, although the aim of the activity was to provide targeted support for individual children, they were not encouraged to join in. The curriculum is not

implemented effectively to fully support all children to make steady progress from their starting points. n The childminder does not ensure that any assistants who work with the children are sufficiently trained and supervised effectively to ensure the quality of their practice. During an art activity, although children showed interest in mixing colours, they were not supported to extend on what they already know. As children played outdoors, with sand, there was very little support from adults to extend their communication and interactions with peers. n The childminder provides healthy foods for children and works in partnerships with parents to meet individual children's dietary requirements. n The childminder encourages children to learn to make choices. For instance, children choose to play dominoes and she uses this opportunity to help them learn to count. Children who speak English as an additional language learn some
