p.1
The provision is inadequate
The breaches to the requirements for registration have a negative impact on children's care, safety and learning. The childminder has a poor understanding of the ratio requirements and cares for more children than she is allowed. The childminder cares for too many children on her own for a prolonged period of time before her assistant arrives at the setting. The childminder is not able to meet children's needs, which impacts significantly on their experiences at the setting. Children often cry because they are insecure. Their emotional needs are not met and they do not receive the right levels of comfort needed to console them.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The environment is loud and chaotic, which prevents children from receiving a purposeful and meaningful curriculum. This does not support all children to make good levels of progress in their learning and development. Children repeatedly have conflicts and disagreements with each other. The childminder attempts to use some positive behaviour strategies; however, these have little effect. Children often shout and scream and do not respond to the childminder's requests. The childminder fails to maintain all required documentation, which compromises children's safety.

need to do better?
n Poor leadership and management of the setting lead to children's needs not being met, and their safety is compromised. Over time, there have been repeated breaches to the requirements about the same issues, which show that the provider lacks the ability to sustain previous improvements. n The childminder and her assistant have a secure knowledge of possible signs that a child may be at risk. They know who they should contact if they have concerns about a child's safety or welfare. However, the childminder fails to maintain attendance records for children and assistants, which does not meet regulatory requirements and puts children at risk. n The childminder is able to describe what she intends children to learn. She demonstrates some positive interactions with children and has provided children with some enjoyable and interesting activities. Children learn about growth and life cycles. They have planted seeds and been on visits to the allotment to grow

potatoes. n Overall, children do not present as being happy at the setting. They show frustration, and some children say that they are tired or bored. The childminder is unable to respond to their needs as she is trying to manage too many children. When the childminder's assistant arrives at the setting there is little difference in the quality of care and education provided. Some children only settle when they go outside to play. The childminder's assistant plays alongside children as they explore the water play, and children enjoy filling containers and transporting the water.

need to do better?
4 July 2024 n Opportunities for children to develop their language and communication are limited. Due to the high noise levels, there are few opportunities for children to hear new vocabulary and practise their speaking and listening. This is particularly of concern for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities as there is a lack of planned targeted time to focus on their individual learning needs. n The environment is clean and suitability organised, with a range of play resources that are accessible to children. The childminder has focused on improving the garden area to provide more outdoor learning opportunities. The childminder engages children in singing the 'Hokey Cokey' and some children are familiar with this and copy the actions. n Children are provided with a range of healthy meals and snacks. They benefit from eating fresh fruit and salad, such as oranges and cucumber. Children have

daily opportunities to play outdoors, where they develop their physical skills as they navigate space and manoeuvre wheeled toys. n The childminder gathers and shares key information about the children with their parents. This helps to keep parents informed about their child's day and progress. Written feedback provided shows that parents comment positively about some of the progress they have seen in their child's development.
