p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children's safety is not assured. This is because the childminder has not taken steps to notify Ofsted of changes to people working in her setting. She has also failed to ensure that suitability checks are completed for all people who regularly work at or visit the setting. Furthermore, the childminder has not informed Ofsted of a significant event that occurred. Sleep practices do not reflect current guidance to ensure children's safety. These things place children at risk.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder gathers information from parents about their child when they first start at the setting, including children's interests. However, she does not plan effectively to provide children with activities and experiences that support their individual learning needs. Children have the opportunity to play indoors and outside each day. Resources are stored in the playroom and children are able to access them independently. This results in children playing with the same toys, such as dinosaurs, cars and wheeled toys, for most of the day. Younger children respond well to interactions with adults. However, at times, they play with resources that are too old for them and that do not support their early learning needs. That said, younger children like to explore different textures as they feel the sand with their hands and their feet.

n The childminder has failed to maintain her knowledge of the 'Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage'. She has not taken steps to inform Ofsted of changes to adults who work at or regularly visit the setting, to ensure that their suitability can be checked. In addition, she has not informed Ofsted of a significant event that occurred. This compromises children's safety and welfare. That said, the childminder and her assistants demonstrate a knowledge of the signs that may indicate that a child is at risk of harm or abuse. They know the procedure for making a referral to the relevant agency. n The quality of education children receive is poor. The childminder does not plan an ambitious curriculum. While she assesses children's abilities, she does not use this information effectively to plan activities that challenge and support their learning. Although children independently access resources, they tend to be the

same resources throughout the day, and at times they are not appropriate for their age and stage of development. Although interactions between the adults and children are positive, adults do not engage with children as effectively as they could do to build on their interests and extend their learning. This results in children losing interest and moving around the room looking for something else to do. n The childminder is aware that new guidance exists about safe sleeping practices for children. However, she has not ensured that she or her assistants fully

need to do better?

4 October 2024 understand the guidance to enable them to implement it effectively into the daily routine. Children currently sleep in buggies, covered with a blanket, in a warm room without ventilation. This places children at risk of overheating. n Children spend lots of time outdoors in the fresh air being physically active, which supports their physical well-being. Parents provide a packed lunch for their children, which is suitably stored until lunchtime. During the inspection, the childminder took appropriate steps to review nappy changing and potty training procedures. She took action, following discussion, to ensure that this was done more appropriately in the ground-floor bathroom in order to promote good hygiene practices. n The childminder has built close relationships with parents, who speak positively about the service she provides for their children. Parents say that their children really enjoy going to the childminder's home. They say that the service she

provides makes going to work so much easier. n Children have lots of opportunities to mix with familiar adults and children at groups they attend. They learn about different cultural events and celebrations during the year, which helps them to build an understanding of the wider world.
