Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Good

p.1

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not effectively supervise children, this means they are not always kept safe and are therefore at risk of harm. In addition to this, the childminder does not show adequate understanding of how to recognise signs and symptoms of concern. The failure to recognise potential indicators and act upon these puts' children at risk of harm.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not use risk assessments effectively to keep children safe. For example, failure to remove hazards from within the reach of children. The childminder does not always show an awareness of risk factors and therefore does not take steps to remove or reduce them. This puts children at risk of harm and compromises safety.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Weaknesses in the delivery of the curriculum mean children do not know how to keep themselves safe. The childminder is inconsistent in the quality of education provided. This means not all children are always engaged appropriately. Young children enjoy suitable activities, however older children are not adequately planned for. In addition to this, children do not always show an understanding of rules and boundaries. This puts them at risk of harm.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder does not always have the children within her sight and hearing, this puts them at risk of harm. Older children are consistently allowed to play unsupervised and only checked intermittently. As a result, the childminder does not always know what the children are doing and therefore does not keep them safe. This is detrimental to their physical and emotional well-being. In addition to this, children are not always supervised effectively outside the home, leaving them at risk of danger. n The childminder does not have a consistent approach to risk assessment. For example, there are some safety measures, such as baby gates downstairs, however, cleaning spray and medication are left within reach of children upstairs. Bedrooms are not adequately risk assessed, leaving items that may be of risk to children unchecked. Upstairs rooms used for minding are cluttered and do not have sufficient safe space for children to play, this compromises their safety.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder does not design or implement activities to teach the children skills to keep themselves safe. She does not adequately prepare children to be aware of potential danger. This means children do not have the knowledge and understanding needed to be able to recognise and avoid possible risk. In addition to this, the childminder does not foster an environment where children are encouraged to speak out, this puts them at further risk of harm. n The childminder consistently talks or sings to young children. She introduces

9 December 2024 new vocabulary and can help children with their pronunciation. However, this is not always effective as young children are often distracted by the television when sat in the kitchen. They focus on the screen and do not pay attention; this is detrimental to their learning and development. n The childminder does not effectively manage behaviour. Children do not always understand expectations and can therefore behave inappropriately. As a result, opportunities for learning are hindered and children may be at risk of harm. Despite the childminder having an ethos of kindness, children do not always demonstrate clear understanding of boundaries or the impact their action may have on others. This has a negative impact on their safety and wellbeing. n The childminder designs a healthy menu for the children and is well informed about weaning, this information is shared with parents. However, she does not
