This provision is good
Since the last inspection, the provider and staff have given priority to reflecting on and evaluating their practice. They set ongoing action plans to help them to develop their knowledge and teaching skills continually, and this has a positive impact on outcomes for children's learning and development. Staff gather comprehensive information from parents when children first start at the nursery, to help identify children's starting points in learning. Children are developing very good communication and language skills. Children hold in- depth conversations with adults and are able to debate and negotiate with each other. Staff give babies choices and, through their actions and sounds, babies make their needs known. Children have many opportunities to learn about the natural world. For example, they watch, with great interest and curiosity, a snail crawling. Children learn how to grow vegetables and take great care in making sure they are well watered.

South Cambridgeshire · CB3 0PJ · Part of Busy Bees Nurseries Limited
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching and learning is good and sometimes outstanding. Staff support children in purposeful play. They are actively engaged in the children's play and learning and build on children's natural instincts to discover and explore. Older children have twice- weekly opportunities to visit the natural environment at the sister nursery, where they follow the forest school philosophy. During these sessions children develop confidence through hands-on learning experiences. They experiment with how soil turns to mud when water is added to it. They delight in exploring the texture of the mud and excitedly describe the 'sticky, gooey' texture. Staff support children's speech and language development effectively. They engage children in conversation and actively listen to what they have to say. Staff respond positively to babies' gestures and babbles.

It has the following strengths
Children of all ages are sociable and confident. Older children are interested in people visiting the nursery, and freely talk about what they are doing. Babies babble at visitors and wave as they leave the room. The nursery has a welcoming feel. It is well resourced and effectively set up to support children’s independence. Staff support older children’s language development. They are introduced to words like ‘lava’ and ‘pentagon’. Staff respond to younger children’s babbling and emerging words and look at books with them. Parents are positive about the nursery. They feel involved in their children’s learning and talk about how their children enjoy attending.

South Cambridgeshire · CB23 3RH · Part of Tots 2 Teens Papworth Ltd
It is not yet outstanding because:
Not all parents benefit from the same detailed information to help them support their children's learning at home. Staff working with the youngest children do not make the most of the nursery garden to enable those who prefer to learn outdoors to do so. Managers' review of the quality of staff teaching practice is not yet thorough enough to help them raise standards, and children's progress, to an outstanding level.

This provision is good
their children's ongoing achievements at home and within the pre-school. Staff work closely with teachers at the primary school. This provides an opportunity for children to meet new adults and visit the school, helping to promote their confidence before they move on.

need to do better?
use magnifying glasses to search for objects. n Children are independent in selecting activities and using the resources, both inside and outside. At times, there are missed opportunities to encourage self- help skills, particularly when dressing and undressing. n Children have opportunities to develop their large physical skills in the garden, which is accessible every day. Staff also use the school to access soft-play sessions every week. n The setting has good links with local schools and the community. Children visit the school library to hear stories and look at books. There are trips to the local care home for singing sessions and walks to the local village. n The setting makes good use of funding to benefit children. It is targeted well to help individuals to focus their attention and express their emotions clearly.
