- West Wittering Parochial Church of England School—
West Wittering, Chichester, West Sussex, PO20 8AJ
INFORMATION ABOUT THE SCHOOL
The accommodation is barely adequate, notably the hall which is small for physical education activities, and one classroom in which the practical aspects of mathematics and science are hampered by the small size of the room. The school is staffed by suitably trained and qualified teachers. Classroom assistants make a significant contribution to pupils’ attainment and learning. Resource provision is adequate in most subjects. There is a clear desire both within the management of the school and within the governing body to bring about continuing improvement. Governors are keen to seek to gain value for money. Day-to-day administration functions are carried out very well. The school has satisfactory processes in place to apply the principles of best value to decisions made regarding major expenditure. Short inspection of Muntham House School
You are involved in a global curriculum initiative with some other West Sussex schools. You host staff from many different international schools and share ideas. Some pupils from your school have been lucky enough to visit these schools and experience different cultures. Recently your pupils have helped to paint the classrooms of a school in Uganda. Work such as this has a positive impact on pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Prior to joining Muntham House, many pupils have had years of negative experience of school. Some may well have been out of education for more than a year. Pupils told inspectors that, when they first start at your school, they go through a programme called ‘Ready to Learn’. This programme helps them to develop positive strategies to overcome the frustrations that they may feel in the classroom. It gives pupils the opportunity to start again and realise the benefits of learning.

Text from letter to pupils explaining the findings of the inspection
14 May 2008 Dear Pupils Amberley First School, West Sussex BN18 9NB Thank you very much for making me welcome when I visited your school. I really enjoyed talking to you and finding out about your school. I think that your school is improving and provides a satisfactory education. It was good to see you really enjoying school and working and playing well together. I enjoyed looking at the work in your books and on display. This showed me that you are reaching good standards and beginning to make good progress in some subjects. You try hard to keep your work neat and tidy. Teaching and learning are satisfactory and are good in some subjects. The staff look after you really well and find lots of really interesting things for you to do, including taking you on visits and working with children in your partner school. They listen to your views and take notice of them. You know who to turn to if you have a problem. They ensure that you develop very good
