p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

The three children have lived at the home for many years. This level of stability creates a real sense of belonging. Children make excellent progress, have enjoyable experiences and establish secure relationships with adults who care for them. Staff offer warmth and acceptance to the children. These relationships provide a solid foundation for children, who flourish.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Staff are persistent in their efforts to ensure that children’s lives are enhanced. The home’s ethos is clear, as described by a member of staff who said, ‘There are no limitations to what the children can achieve.’ This is evident in the progress made by children. One child has progressed from only eating blended foods, to now enjoying wholesome, varied meals. Another child no longer requires feeds via a gastrostomy tube and now enjoys sharing a meal with their friends at their favourite eatery.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Children’s health needs are understood by staff. The staff team works collaboratively with health professionals. Staff’s efforts contribute to an improved quality of life for children. As a result of the care provided, one child is no longer prescribed respiratory medication. For another child, they have made extraordinary progress in their mobility and no longer use a wheelchair. The progress made enables children to participate in physical activity and supports children’s emotional well-being.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Staff consistently demonstrate unwavering commitment to the children, often going above and beyond to support personal development. One staff member provided extensive support to help a child successfully learn to swim. As a direct result, the child was able to travel abroad on holiday for the very first time and confidently swim and play in the water alongside their family members. This achievement enhanced the child’s life and cemented their ability to fully participate in a new, shared family experience.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Children’s self-esteem and confidence blossom as staff consistently instil a belief in their potential. Staff identify and pursue children’s individual interests and hobbies. They actively use these as a foundation to successfully integrate children into the wider community. For example, one child joined a local football team, which was celebrated as a huge personal milestone. This proactive, interest-led approach has also enabled children to develop strong relationships outside the home. For instance, by engaging with peers at the local Lego club and participating in tabletop gaming stalls.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Children’s relationships with family and friends are well supported by staff, who understand the significance of maintaining these relationships. Staff are creative and resourceful in how they arrange and facilitate this time, always in the best interests of children. One family member described the efforts of the team as ‘exceptional’ as they travel considerable distances to make family time possible. Furthermore, staff organised a birthday party out of area to ensure that a child’s close friends could attend, making the child’s day memorable. Inspection report for children’s home: 2675886 4 Children are encouraged to live fulfilled lives and reach their full potential. They are supported to do a range of activities, such as swimming, going to parks, visiting the cinema and going to soft play areas. Children enjoy holidays with staff, going to theme parks and visiting the water park. Children are supported to have new experiences, such

as one child who recently went to the dog cafe. Another child experienced a specialist science centre. Children have enjoyed going for breakfast and meeting their favourite television characters. These opportunities enrich the children’s lives.

p.4

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Children participate in day-to-day decisions about their lives, and staff value their opinions. Children’s wishes and feelings are at the centre of everything that happens in the home. Staff have used research to explore new communication devices. This has helped children to develop their verbal and non-verbal communication skills. One child has made considerable progress with their communication and is now using words.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

The staff team has an excellent insight into the different risks and vulnerabilities that the children face. These are included in the extremely detailed and individualised person- centred plans. The staff meticulously plan the day-to-day arrangements in the home. Sufficient staffing arrangements means that the children are supervised and safely observed, without being deprived of their liberty.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Person-centred care and the integration of positive behaviour support are at the centre of practice in the home. The team’s overall focus is on improving the quality of life for the children and they strive to reduce restrictive practices.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Children feel safe because of the positive relationships and the quality of care that they receive from staff. A child articulated this when they explained, ‘I love my home, it’s always happy and I feel very safe, I can tell the staff anything.’

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Some children are dependent on staff’s support to help them meet their personal care needs. This is always managed in a sensitive way and promotes children’s privacy and dignity.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Staff understand that all behaviour is a form of communication. The manager uses pattern analyses to identify trends and patterns in the children’s behaviours. Subsequently, care plans and risk assessments are reviewed and updated. As a result, incidents of children becoming upset, worried or overwhelmed significantly reduce.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Staff have an in-depth understanding of children’s sensory needs, particularly when they have difficulty processing and responding to information from their environment. Following extensive research by the team, they have implemented a sensory communication resource using touch and music. This creates a sensory experience to support the child to relax and reduce stress. As a result, the child has a better insight into their emotions and is beginning to develop self-regulation strategies. Inspection report for children’s home: 2675886 5

He leads a highly skilled staff team and has established a culture within the home which is entirely child focused. Staff are committed to ensuring that each child receives high-quality, individualised care tailored to their unique needs and circumstances.

p.5

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: outstanding

The registered manager ensures that all decisions made about the children’s care are in their best interests. He challenges external professionals effectively, making sure that the child’s needs are heard while still maintaining professional working relationships. This approach resulted in a child continuing with formal education within a bespoke provision.

p.5

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: outstanding

Staff greatly benefit from regular supervisions and team meetings led by managers. When actions are identified, they are quickly addressed due to the high level of accountability in the home.

p.5

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: outstanding

The registered manager and his staff work in collaboration with external agencies and have positive working relationships. Feedback is consistently positive. Professionals speak highly of the team and describe the excellent progress that children make. They make children’s dreams come true, the progress has been life changing.’
