need to do better?
n The childminder's passion for outdoor learning ensures that children have a wide range of outdoor learning experiences, where they can explore nature and develop their physical skills. For example, children spend time in the local parks and enjoy gardening with the childminder. These gardening activities continue inside. Children carefully scoop soil into pots and choose seeds to plant flowers and vegetables, such as pumpkins and sunflowers. They can then take these home and continue this process with their families. n The childminder provides children with healthy and freshly prepared snacks and meals. She displays toothpaste and model teeth for children to practise brushing teeth. Children talk with confidence about the importance of looking after their teeth and why they must brush them. n The childminder delivers a broad and varied curriculum. She plans well-thought- out and motivating experiences. For example, children concentrate for a lengthy

period of time when exploring dried pasta and lentils in the sensory tray. The childminder is fully engaged and promotes children's language development well by asking children to name the different resources they are using. However, on occasion, the childminder does not fully extend children's learning as much as possible during incidental moments. For example, when children comment that

27 May 2025 they can hear a police siren and show an interest in this, the childminder does not expand on this. n The childminder knows how to seek advice to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. She understands the need for close monitoring and careful planning of activities to meet each child's needs. The childminder monitors all children and acts quickly to close any gaps in their learning. n Partnerships with parents and carers are strong. Parents speak highly of the care the childminder provides. They comment that they value 'the very good communication she offers' and that their children have made a great deal of progress since starting. The childminder is passionate about working alongside parents and working as a team. This ongoing two-way communication helps parents to stay informed about their child's current interests, achievements and areas for further learning.

need to do better?
n The childminder promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion. She teaches children about other cultures and religions and explores different festivals with them. For example, children enjoy coming together for Eid parties and creating pottery for Diwali. Community is an important part of the childminder's curriculum. Children regularly attend playgroups, where they socialise with their peers and have opportunities to be part of a larger group of children and adults. n Children are confident and independent. The childminder arranges the environment carefully to allow children to choose resources of interest. The childminder shows a genuine interest in what children do and includes children in the decision-making process. This helps to create the respectful atmosphere in the childminder's home. When children are thirsty, they independently get their water bottle and have a drink, demonstrating their self-care needs well.
