She is familiar with the procedures to record and report concerns to the relevant authorities. The childminder develops close relationships with parents. She monitors children's progress and informs them about their children's development. The childminder makes parents aware of what children need to do and what they can do at home to help extend their learning. The childminder supports children to develop their communication and language skills effectively. For example, she uses simple sentences and gives clear instructions to help develop their understanding. The childminder comments on children's play and gives them sufficient time to speak. She listens to them and responds to their questions or requests. Children confidently express themselves throughout the different activities. Children curiously explore and develop their skills as they use a wide range of sensory, creative and imaginative resources. They grasp and handle different items successfully. The childminder supports children to develop their early literacy skills well. For example, they learn to hold a marker pen and practise making marks. The childminder offers praise and encouragement to develop children's self-esteem and help them to recognise their own achievements. The childminder supports children's growing awareness of dangers and how to keep themselves safe. She provides opportunities for them to learn about healthy foods through their play. The childminder plans regular visits to the local park for children to access rigorous play, to help support their physical development.
p.3
