p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a warm and nurturing environment in her home. Children are new to her setting and have settled remarkably well. She has got to know the children quickly and ensures that she keeps parents informed of how their child is settling. Children are comfortable in the childminder's care and approach her for reassurance and cuddles throughout the day. They are inquisitive learners and explore the interesting range of toys the childminder provides. Children freely choose what they want to play with. During children's free play, the childminder observes and listens to their interactions and mostly supports them when help is needed.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder has a clear awareness of what she wants children to learn. Her curriculum is focused on encouraging children to develop their social skills, behave well and develop good concentration skills so they are ready for starting school.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's behaviour is good. They are learning to show good manners and learn about sharing and taking turns. The childminder gently reminds children to use 'kind hands' and to say 'sorry' when needed. This supports children to understand social rules and being sensitive to each other. Children are developing their independence skills very well. This is due to the childminder supporting children to have a go when putting on their outdoor shoes and giving them time to wash and dry their hands.

need to do better?

n The childminder adapts her curriculum depending on the age of the children attending. As the children are very new to her setting, she is in the early stages of assessing their development. This will enable her to fully plan their next steps for learning. n The childminder organises her environment with a full range of resources to enable children to choose toys. However, on occasion, there are too many resources available. This slightly hinders children's learning as they sometimes struggle to focus on an activity, impacting their developing concentration skills. n Overall, the childminder supports young children's emerging communication and language effectively. She interacts with children as they play, talks about what they are doing and asks questions to support their learning. For example, as children play with a caterpillar puzzle, she asks them to find the different colours and numbers. However, her interaction is inconsistent and on occasion she

misses some opportunities to enhance their learning further. n The childminder has good partnerships with parents. Parents' comments include that she has been very accommodating for meeting children's cultural needs and that she is honest and flexible for their family needs. The childminder provides

24 September 2024 daily verbal feedback to keep parents well informed. n The childminder makes very good use of her garden, and children really enjoy this time outside. They develop their physical skills as they push themselves along on ride-on toys. They have great fun playing with sand and water. Children scoop the sand and transfer it to buckets, supporting their developing hand muscles and hand-eye coordination. They begin to experiment as they pour water into the sand and watch how this changes the consistency. n The childminder takes children out regularly into the neighbourhood. She attends local toddler groups and other places of interest, supporting children to develop an awareness of similarities and differences in the community. The childminder ensures that children are safe when on outings, either sitting them in the pushchair or using a backpack harness and only allowing them to run freely when it is safe to do so.

need to do better?

n The childminder acts as a good role model for children and has high expectations for children's behaviour. She encourages children to be kind and supports them in learning right from wrong. n Children learn to keep themselves healthy and follow good hygiene routines. Parents provide their child's lunch, and the childminder ensures that she advises parents about the healthy food options to provide. The childminder provides a healthy snack of fruit and ensures that children have access to fresh drinking water throughout the day. n The childminder demonstrates a commitment to continually improve her skills. She recently completed a workshop on schema play, and this has supported her awareness further when planning her curriculum. She keeps up to date with mandatory training courses and receives updates from the local authority on any changes.
