The provision is good
n Children are making typical progress in their learning and development. Overall, the childminder reviews children's learning needs and plans activities to support them. n The childminder has formed effective links with other early years providers who also care for children. She shares relevant information about children's learning, raising the consistency of care and support. n Children behave very well and visibly enjoy each other's company. Older children model very good behaviour and all children are at ease and relaxed in the childminder's care. n The childminder supports children's speaking and listening skills well. For example, children enjoy recalling and talking about past events and experiences.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n Not all activities are planned as precisely as possible to focus on children's current stages of development, rather than age-related targets. n The childminder misses some opportunities to extend children's learning, such as by introducing more ideas and challenges into their play.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder assesses the risks within her home thoroughly. She ensures that toys and resources are safe and appropriate for children to use. The childminder has a secure understanding of the safeguarding procedures to follow. She knows how to respond if she has concerns about a child. The childminder has developed strong partnerships with parents, who are very happy with the information she provides about their child's learning and development. The childminder evaluates and monitors her own practice well. She attends training where possible and shares ideas and experiences with other childminders.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder carefully tracks children's development and has a good understanding of what each child can achieve. She monitors children's progress and overall, plans for what children need to learn next. The childminder understands children's individual interests and provides resources which reflect these. She supports children to develop good communication skills, such as by encouraging eye contact and modelling the correct pronunciation of words. Children are developing high levels of confidence and particularly enjoy engaging in child-initiated play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy having the opportunity to choose from a wide range of toys and resources. Babies settle well and observe with interest what the older children can do. Older children care very much for those younger than themselves, showing kindness and including them into their play. Toddlers enjoy practising their independence as they use forks and spoons to feed themselves, persevering if the food falls off. Children enjoy outings to parks and into the community, developing their awareness and respect for people of different backgrounds and cultures.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Older children are developing the skills they require for school. They persevere even when they find something difficult. Children sit and listen to others and cooperate well. They enjoy problem solving, for example by sorting puzzle pieces and working out how to turn the pieces to fit them in the box. Children of all ages are settled and secure. They develop confidence to tackle new tasks and prepare them for their future learning.
