This provision is good

 The childminder frequently monitors children's progress, which means she can react swiftly to their needs and seek additional support where necessary. Children make good progress and gain the skills needed for the next stage in their learning.  Children have developed strong and affectionate bonds with the childminder. She is attentive to their individual needs and gives them reassurance and affection when they are upset or tired. Children settle quickly in the warm and stimulating environment.  The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and gathers the views of parents and children. This helps her make the necessary changes to her practice, to further improve outcomes for children.  The childminder consistently implements robust policies and procedures. She conducts regular risk assessments of the indoor and outdoor environments, to help keep children safe from harm.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not gather detailed information from parents on children's achievements when they first start, to track their progress from the earliest opportunity.  The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities for children to gain a greater awareness of diversity and learn to reflect upon similarities and differences among people.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities

 The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children during activities.  The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies, procedures, risk assessments and the children's learning and assessment records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of abuse, neglect and other risks to children and knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder attends training and meets with other professionals to update her skills and knowledge. This ensures she remains aware of changes in legislation and contributes to improving the outcomes for children's care and learning. The childminder has addressed the recommendation from the previous inspection well. For example, she has established highly effective partnerships with others involved in children's development to provide a consistent approach to their learning. The childminder regularly shares information with parents to keep them well informed about their children's learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder regularly observes, assesses and plans for children's learning. She accurately tracks children's progress and plans activities to support them to learn their next steps in development. The childminder knows children incredibly well and uses effective strategies to help them settle, such as distracting them with favourite toys. She promotes children's communication and language effectively. For example, babies are keen to communicate with adults through babbles and gestures, and respond eagerly to the childminder's playful interactions with them. Babies have great fun exploring an understanding of technology at an early age. For example, they thoroughly enjoy learning how to use push-button musical toys to make sounds and move their bodies to the music. Young children enjoy exploring and investigating a range of different materials.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop their independence skills at a young age. For example, babies select toys of interest and learn to feed themselves. The childminder is a good role model. For instance, she promotes positive behaviour and provides children with constant praise and encouragement as they engage in play. Children gain a good awareness of keeping themselves safe. For example, they regularly take part in evacuation drills and learn about road safety when walking in the community. The childminder promotes children's healthy lifestyles well. For example, they have plenty of fresh air in the garden and enjoy outings regularly. Children develop good physical skills. For instance, babies learn to crawl and move around safely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain confidence in their social skills, and are eager to join in and explore. They are developing the skills needed to move onto the next stage in their learning.
