p.1

The provision is good

Children feel safe and secure with the childminder. She builds warm attachments to children and families, which helps them to settle quickly into her setting. The childminder creates a safe and stimulating environment. Children are excited and engaged to take part in small-group activities. For example, they remain focused and explore a sensory tray set out as a farm, including smelling and tasting different textures of cereal. Children begin to learn and repeat new language due to high-quality interactions from the childminder.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder works in partnership with parents to gain information on children's starting points of development and their personal interests. As a result, children benefit from a well-developed curriculum that is exciting and ambitious. The childminder uses her knowledge of children to plan appropriate next steps which build on what children already know and can do. She has an effective process for assessing the impact of these.

She comforts children appropriately throughout the day, which helps them to learn to regulate their emotions. Children learn to be kind and caring through the childminder's calm and thoughtful interactions. This helps children to learn to make trusting relationships with their peers.

The childminder checks that children can understand words by asking them to find key objects during their play. She develops skilful interactions with children, which includes a mixture of repeating and modelling words. The childminder also uses questioning to assess the impact of her interactions on children. n The childminder's curriculum generally has clear aims for children's learning during child-led activities.
