p.1

The provision is good

The experienced childminder is extremely positive, kind and caring. She understands the importance of building close and trusting bonds with children and their families. Making children feel happy and secure is at the heart of everything she does. As a result, children's emotional well-being is supported, and they demonstrate high levels of self-confidence and self-esteem.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder's curriculum is heavily focused on helping children develop strong foundations in the prime areas of learning. In the main, her interactions with children are strong. The intended curriculum is implemented very well. The childminder is tuned into children's interests and uses these when planning. For example, she provides lots of resources and books that are linked to children's current interest in birds. As such, children have a positive attitude to learning and make good progress.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder is an excellent role model for children. Her extremely high expectations are understood and diligently implemented by the children. For example, children seek permission to leave the table after eating and carefully carry their plates and cups to the kitchen. Children beam with pride as they tell the inspector, 'Look how clever I am.' As such, children are ready for future learning and school.

p.2

need to do better?

n Overall, the delivery of the intended curriculum is strong. The childminder values children's opinions and allows them to contribute their own ideas. For example, children creatively make binoculars from junk materials. However, at times, she does not provide enough challenge for the most able children to stretch and enhance their current knowledge and understanding. As a result, occasionally, some children do not make the progress they are capable of. n The childminder participates in lots of back-and-forth conversations with the children. Furthermore, she encourages them to share their thoughts and recall past events. She superbly models language and introduces children to new words. For example, as children make their binoculars, the childminder explains how using more tape will make them 'rigid', 'sturdy' and 'stable'. n The childminder showers children with praise and encouragement. She listens to

children and values their opinions. Children's behaviour is exemplary. When children encounter difficulties, for example when using scissors, the childminder reminds them that 'practice makes perfect'. As a result, children remain motivated and persist in perfecting their cutting skills. n The insightful childminder is constantly looking for ways to improve her professional knowledge and the quality of the service she provides. She has

This further supports children's learning and care. n The childminder works with parents to help children develop good oral hygiene routines. Food provided for children is healthy and nutritious. The childminder reminds children to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Older children understand the importance of handwashing. They tell the inspector how they 'rinse away the germs'. Consequently, children understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. n Parents highly value the childminder and appreciate her commitment to them and their children. Parents say she provides 'consistent guidance and practical support'. The childminder seeks parents' views on the quality of the service she provides. Additionally, she provides parents with information to enhance children's learning at home. This joined-up approach further supports children's

learning and progress. n The childminder helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe. For example, children confidently explain to visitors the rules they follow while they are away from the childminder's home. This supports children's safety and well- being.
