p.1

The provision is outstanding

The childminder is an inspiring practitioner who has a clear and meaningful intent for what she wants children to learn. Her curriculum centres on developing children's emotional intelligence, underpinned by the Montessori approach. The childminder helps children to find the words they need to describe their feelings. Children are empathetic and alert to the feelings of others. The principles of the childminder's curriculum support children to be confident and resilient, and this prepares them extremely well for their future learning. Throughout the day, children engage in purposeful learning that expands on what they already know and can do. Children make excellent progress which by far exceeds expectations for their young age. Each day, the childminder introduces children to a new word. Children learn about the meaning of the word and then use it in context. For example, during the inspection, children informed the inspector that she was

'punctual' because she arrived on time. As a result of this effective teaching, children have a vast vocabulary and a large repertoire of words that they can use to express themselves and share their ideas with others.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder reminds children of expectations each morning when they arrive. Children know and understand the rules. Their behaviour is consistently excellent and they show that they can self-regulate their behaviour. When playing together, children are cooperative and skilful problem solvers, who use discussion and empathy to resolve any issues that arise. This shows their impressive levels of personal, social and emotional development.

n The childminder has a deep awareness of how young children develop and learn. Her lively and animated teaching excites and stimulates children, who become quickly engrossed in their learning. Children make huge gains in their development and are acquiring the important skills that they need to be highly successful learners in the future. n The childminder speaks to children with the utmost respect and courtesy. She shows them that she values their views and ideas. Consequently, children show others the same level of regard and are highly confident and competent in social situations. They interact with others positively and show impeccable manners. n Children understand about others outside of their own experiences. They talk about their own experiences and use these to consider the lives of others. Children know their strengths and what they do well. Through activities that provide them with challenge, children push themselves to achieve. For example,

at the park they climb apparatus and assess whether they can climb higher. n Children are highly content within the childminder's care. The childminder describes her care as a 'family', and children form exceptionally close

28 June 2023 relationships with her and each other. Children show high levels of self- confidence. They talk with enthusiasm about what they enjoy and have high levels of concentration. n Children have a voracious appetite for learning. They positively soak up everything the childminder teaches them through the opportunities she provides. Children are quizzical, curious and interested in everything they explore. For example, when out walking, they find public signs and notices. They use their emerging literacy skills to sound out what the notices say. This sometimes has amusing results, such as reading notices about dog fouling and decoding that it might mean dogs cannot set fires. This makes children giggle. The childminder's joyful approach to teaching means that children adore spending time with her. n The childminder is motivated to continually review and improve her provision. She has engaged in several different programmes to enhance her practice,

including linking with other providers to share ideas. The childminder goes above and beyond to seek out opportunities to expand upon her already excellent knowledge. As a result, she delivers a finely tuned curriculum, she has a superb capacity to keep children safe and shows a genuine passion for providing children with the best possible care. n Relationships with parents are professional and successful. Parents know what their children are learning and have adopted many of the childminder's ideas for supporting children's learning at home. They speak very highly of the childminder and the superb care that she provides for children.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has an extensive awareness of safeguarding matters. She can talk with confidence about the signs and symptoms that might indicate that children are at risk of harm. Through training and research, the childminder develops a deep awareness of the work of her local safeguarding partners. She has multiple measures in place to keep children safe while in her care. Furthermore, she teaches children to be effective at playing their part in identifying and managing risks for themselves. For example, children can demonstrate that they know how to cross the road safely when out walking with the childminder.
