p.1

The provision is good

Children are very settled and secure in the childminder's care. They move around the learning environment with confidence. The childminder has clear learning intentions for the curriculum she provides, prioritising supporting children's self- confidence. Resources are well organised and at the children's level, which enables children to independently select the toys they want to use. Children enjoy playing alongside each other. They ask the childminder for support when needed. The children enjoy a strong bond with the childminder and interact animatedly with her as they play. The childminder ensures the children hear lots of new language. For example, children notice their shadows and point them out to the childminder. She quickly introduces the word 'shadow' and spends time explaining to the children how shadows are formed. The children then excitedly investigate their shadows, comparing the length and shape of them with each other.

The provision is good

The childminder is a positive role model who provides children with plenty of praise and encouragement as they play. Children enjoy daily outings with the childminder. They visit local parks and enjoy playing on climbing and balancing courses. Children also attend a weekly playgroup with other childminders. Children enjoy playing in a new environment, with different children and unfamiliar toys. Children's confidence flourishes when taking part in these outings.

The childminder knows how to support children's learning effectively, and children make good progress in all areas of their development. n The childminder gets down to children's level as she speaks to them and speaks slowly and clearly. She introduces early mathematics concepts such as shape, space and measures while the children are playing with the trains. She speaks with children about the different lengths of the pieces of track and which pieces might fit in gaps to construct the track. However, at times, the children's ability to fully engage with their chosen activities is hindered by the childminder's involvement in their play. n Parents are very complimentary about the service the childminder provides. They comment on her home-from-home environment and the progress that their
