p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children are very happy in this calm and nurturing environment. The childminder knows the children extremely well. Her warm and gentle nature helps children to feel safe and emotionally secure.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder is exceptionally skilful at organising her ambitious curriculum around children's interests and extending their learning. For example, babies and toddlers use play dough, and they enjoy squashing it into containers. The childminder slowly introduces new concepts and ideas. Toddlers learn that play dough is 'squidgy' but it goes hard if allowed to dry out. They learn that it can be rolled flat with a smooth or patterned surface or made into different shapes with their hands or cutters.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children excitedly sing a special song and enjoy taking turns to choose an item from a box. Children connect the object to a familiar song, and this helps them makes links in their learning. They listen intently to favourite stories and laugh when they anticipate what happens next. Toddlers spontaneously count to four and five accurately when they see groups of items on a page.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children behave exceptionally well. The childminder is extremely respectful. For instance, she makes sure children are happy to have their nappy changed. The children are equally respectful in return, politely saying 'help, please'. Children have a very positive attitude towards learning, showing determination and perseverance.

n Children are curious and active learners. They continually engage in meaningful activities that interest them. The childminder skilfully builds on what they already know and can do. For example, they pour water from small jugs with great excitement. Their skills increase as they practise, and they learn words such as 'enough', 'full' and 'empty'. The childminder transfers the activity to the water tray in the garden so that the children can explore further. They experiment by floating balls of different sizes. The children roll the wet balls down the slide and learn about the effect of slopes. n The childminder provides exceptionally rich experiences that help children understand more about their local community and the wider world. They go to local children's groups for socialisation and different activities, such as rhyme time. During their walks, the children notice artwork painted on the walls of

houses. They regularly go on trips to local parks, the farm and interesting places such as museums. They cross the river on a ferry or drive across the different bridges. They have opportunities to engage with the natural world by exploring green spaces and watching birds and squirrels. They engage in craft activities

She gathers information about the children that enables her to get to know them quickly and understand their individual personalities. Parents speak very highly of the childminder. They trust her implicitly to keep their children safe. In addition to daily conversations, parents are delighted to receive photos and notes through an online forum. These communications give them an additional insight into their child's day. The childminder provides a beautiful collection of photos for each child, along with a detailed and highly accurate assessment of

their progress. n The childminder continually seeks to improve her excellent practice through self- reflection and frequent professional conversations with others. She has extended her knowledge by regular training. For example, her deeper understanding of the early years curriculum has had a positive impact on the quality of children's learning opportunities. As a result of other training, the childminder intends to gather more parental input to include in the progress summary check for two- year-old children. This will mean the document is a more useful tool in identifying any gaps in learning or the need for early intervention.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder is knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms that a child is being harmed or is at risk of harm. She is aware of safeguarding concerns, including when children might be at risk from grooming, radicalisation or involvement in county lines. The childminder carries out risk assessments to ensure that the home and outdoor environments are safe for children. She involves the children in regular evacuation procedures so they know what to do in the event of a fire or other emergency. She uses a triple buggy for walking to local destinations.
