p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Children receive a warm welcome when they move into the home. Staff work hard to make the transition as smooth as possible for children. Since the last inspection, some children have moved to live closer to their family members or have moved on to adult provision. A positive ending for one child who lived at the home for six years was celebrated with a meal out. Many present and past staff attended this event in recognition of the child’s strong relationships and positive progress.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff support children to improve their health through regular check-ups and reviews. Children’s mental health needs are accurately identified. This means that the children receive the specialist help that they need.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Children have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of activities, both in the home and in the wider community. They are encouraged to have their own interests, such as playing football and attending boxing clubs. These activities help children to build confidence and develop their social skills.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Every effort is made to promote and strengthen family relationships. The staff support children to rebuild and maintain positive relationships with family members.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Children are encouraged to become more independent according to their ability. For example, they learn to manage their finances, prepare some of their own meals and tidy their bedrooms. They also learn to attend to their own personal care needs. This helps to build the children’s confidence and independence.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff prioritise the children’s education. When children do not have a school place, the manager actively engages with educational professionals to seek to secure an educational placement that meets the child’s needs. For children who find attending educational settings challenging, the staff work hard to motivate the children to engage with education providers. This support has helped some children to re- engage with their education and make progress, which increases the children’s later life chances.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The home’s physical environment is well maintained. The home is warm and welcoming. The children are supported to personalise their own bedrooms. This helps the children to feel comfortable and have a sense of belonging in their home.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Children engage in meetings and regular consultations with the manager. These opportunities enable them to have a say in how the home is run. For example, children are continually involved in planning meals and activities. Inspection report for children's home: SC396463 4

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Children’s risks and vulnerabilities are well understood by staff, and written assessments and plans are in place to manage and reduce risks.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Children are supported to understand safe relationships. This is developed through key-work sessions, exploring potential risks through reflection and honest conversations. Topics for key-work sessions include sexual health, personal safety and exploitation. This work helps children to increase their awareness of risk.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff recognise their role in reporting safeguarding concerns. They work collaboratively with key partners to understand children’s needs and risks. This means that incidents are not seen in isolation, and staff take a holistic view in response to patterns and trends of behaviour.
