p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and demonstrate that they feel safe and secure in the childminder's and her co-minder's care. They warmly welcome visitors with waves and cheery greetings. Children are highly motivated to learn and concentrate extremely well. They enjoy sensory experiences, such as exploring how dough feels as they squeeze it in their hands. They spend time adding other resources and talk about what they are making. Children link their activity to previous learning, referring to a cave in a book while making a cave from the dough. Children are kind and considerate to each other. They offer each other support as they join in activities and share resources very well. Children's behaviour is good.

p.2

The provision is good

Children's speech and language skills are developing well. They constantly chat to each other and talk about what they are doing. Younger children are learning how to make their needs known by using single words and gestures. Children are developing good independence skills. They gladly join in with tidying up and know to wash their hands before eating. Children are pleased with their achievements, such as putting their own coats on while preparing to go to the park.

need to do better?

n The childminder has a clear intent for what she wants each child to achieve. She gathers information from parents when children first start. This helps her to know what experiences children have had and what they can already do. The childminder plans for what she wants each child to learn next. She provides opportunities for children to practise their skills and develop their understanding through exploration and planned activities. n Children are developing strong physical skills. They thread small cereal hoops onto uncooked spaghetti with ease. Young children quickly learn how to precisely stack up blocks to make towers. When their towers fall down, children continue to practise by repeating their building activity. n Children benefit from many experiences outside of the setting. They talk in detail about their favourite outings, for instance, to the zoo. Children show they are learning to recall past events and laugh as they remember their amusement

when watching monkeys. n Overall, children's mathematical understanding is developing well. They are beginning to recognise basic shapes and count correctly as they build with blocks. However, at times, the childminder's expectations of what children aged two years know and understand about numbers, colours and shapes is too high. n Partnerships with parents are well established. The childminder exchanges information about children's achievements and progress with them. Parents express very high levels of appreciation for the service the childminders provide, and say their children benefit from the many learning opportunities and outings

22 November 2022 they take part in. n Children form strong relationships with the childminder, her co-minder and each other. When older children arrive after being at nursery, all the children are pleased to see each other. Adults and children have immense fun together; laughter, good manners and kind words are often heard. n The childminder builds up strong partnerships with other settings that children attend. She finds out what topics children are learning about and finds ways to complement this in her setting. The childminder and nursery teachers share development information. This promotes continuity in children's learning and development. n The childminder and her co-minder regularly reflect on their practice and look at areas they want to develop and improve. The childminder undertakes training to enhance her teaching skills and keep her knowledge current and up to date. She talks about how training impacts on her practice. For example, she has

deepened her understanding of how to complete progress checks for children aged between two and three years.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder is clear about her responsibilities to protect children from harm. She understands the signs of abuse and additional areas relating to safeguarding, such as extremist behaviour. The childminder clearly explains the procedures she would follow if she were to have any concerns. She undertakes regular training to help keep her knowledge relevant and up to date. The childminder has effective safeguarding policies and procedures in place. She shares these with parents to help them to understand how she intends to keep children safe.
