p.1

The provision is good

Children of all ages are confident and very happy. They are eager to join in with the motivating and interesting activities that the childminder carefully plans. For instance, children enjoy making patterns in interesting ways. This includes exploring paint using apples and bubble wrap. Children have good opportunities to be imaginative. They are confident to bring their ideas alive as they become a 'vet' and a 'dentist'. Children investigate the natural world around them. For instance, they collect natural objects, such as sticks, fir cones and conkers, and use magnifying glasses to look at them closely.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are polite. They say 'please' and 'thank you' with minimal reminders. They are kind towards each other. For instance, they help each other to reach bricks to complete their tower. Children wait patiently, share and take turns with good levels of maturity. Children learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles. They talk about healthy foods. This includes learning about a wide range of fruit. For example, children enjoy blackberry picking. They collect apples from the apple tree to bake apple crumble. Children have good opportunities to develop their physical skills and learn to move in different ways. For instance, they confidently climb and balance on safe and age-appropriate equipment.

need to do better?

n The childminder gets to know children well. This includes what makes them unique and their individual personalities. All children settle very quickly, and the childminder establishes a secure and trusting relationship with them. Children have a good sense of belonging and positive well-being. For example, they enjoy the childminder's company and are excited to play games with her. n The childminder has a good understanding of all areas of learning. She includes children's ideas and suggestions in activity plans and knows what they like and dislike. This helps her plan activities that she knows will keep children motivated to learn. Children have a positive attitude towards their experiences. Therefore, all children are well supported to make good progress. n Overall, children have some opportunities to be independent. For example, they are confident to choose their own play. However, at times, the childminder is a

little too quick to intervene and complete tasks for the children. This includes preparing their snack and putting on their coats for them. This does not consistently promote opportunities for children to do things by themselves. n Overall, the childminder supports children to build on their developing communication skills. For example, she talks to the children and provides them with language-rich conversations. As a result, children learn new words and have good opportunities to widen their vocabulary. However, at times, the childminder does not consistently give children enough time to think and answer

26 September 2022 questions to build on their developing communication skills even further. n The childminder supports all children to learn about other people outside of their own communities and experiences. This includes religious beliefs and the traditions of other cultures. For example, the childminder talks to children about the importance of the Qur'an to those who follow the Islamic faith. Children enjoy learning about other festivals, creating art to represent the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, for example. n The childminder establishes positive relationships with parents. She communicates with them daily and keeps them fully informed and involved in their children's learning and time at the setting. For example, she regularly shares photographs of their achievements. n The childminder is keen to continue to keep up to date and build on her already good skills and knowledge. She carries out independent reading and research

and attends beneficial training. For example, she has recently learned about the different ways that she can support children to fully understand the expectations and consequences of their behaviour. As a result, children fully know what is expected of them, and they behave well.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a secure and confident knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection. The childminder completes training to develop her confidence even further. This includes other signs and symptoms of abuse, such as radicalisation and extremism. The childminder knows the signs and symptoms to be vigilant of regarding any potential concerns. She knows who to contact to seek advice and how to follow up and raise any issues. Children learn how to keep themselves and others safe. For example, they talk about how to cross the road safely when out in the community.

p.3

should:

n encourage children to be more independent and to carry out tasks they are capable of completing themselves n extend children's opportunities to have enough time to think and respond to the good questions they are asked.
