This provision is good
The childminder spends quality time getting to know the children well and builds secure attachments with them. This helps children to feel happy and confident in her care and they develop strong self-esteem. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder effectively monitors their progress and this helps her to identify gaps in their learning. She uses this knowledge to plan for each child's unique learning needs. The childminder has a secure understanding of safeguarding practices and uses these to help keep children safe. She carries out thorough risk assessments to minimise hazards to children so they can play in safety. The childminder has a strong commitment to improving her practice. She values parents' and children's contributions to identifying what they feel is working well and what is not. She uses this information to improve outcomes for children. The childminder works closely with parents to strengthen consistency in children's care

and learning. For example, she speaks to them at the end of the day to share information about children's activities and the progress they make.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide extensive opportunities to develop children's knowledge and understanding of other cultures and faiths. At times, planned activities do not always highly engage and challenge all children.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

create more opportunities for children to learn about other cultures and beliefs to help improve their understanding of the wider world extend activities further to make them more exciting and challenging for all children.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed all areas used by children. The inspector spoke to the childminder at convenient times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at documentation, including policies, children's learning records and evidence of suitability for household members. The inspector discussed how the childminder uses self-evaluation to develop her practice.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to report any concerns regarding children's welfare. She attends regular safeguarding training to update her knowledge. The childminder shares frequent information with other early years settings that children attend to strengthen consistency in children's care and learning. She regularly liaises with other childminders to exchange information and makes good use of early years guidance to keep her knowledge up to date. This shows her high commitment to continually improving her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is aware of children's starting points for learning. She initially obtains information from parents about what their child knows and can do. The childminder's effective ongoing observations and assessments lead to planning for future learning that is based on a secure knowledge of each child. The childminder interacts well with children and skilfully joins in with their chosen play to extend their interest further. She effectively supports children's communication and language skills. For example, she regularly comments on what children are doing and asks questions related to their play. The childminder encourages children to acquire early literacy skills. For example, she provides a good range of books and materials for the children to use to practise writing.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's personal, social and emotional development well. For example, she is a good role model and encourages children to behave well. Children settle well and explore their surroundings with confidence. The childminder ensures that children have opportunities to play outside each day. For example, she takes them to play groups and parks to use different play equipment. Children have healthy snacks and meals, and the childminder uses these as the basis for discussion to reinforce the importance of good health and well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and very sociable. They develop good communication and language skills. For example, young children listen well to instructions and begin to join words to communicate their needs. Children are determined and develop good thinking skills. For example, during a shape-sorting activity, children kept turning each shape round until they were able to fit it in the correct space, without giving up too easily. Children are resilient and eager to learn. They are well prepared for their next stage of learning and in readiness for their move on to primary school.
