p.1

The provision is good

Children show deep concentration and engagement in their learning for long periods of time because the childminder provides experiences that reflect their interests. As the childminder joins in with children's play, she uses this time to support their communication and language well. She uses repetition and comments on what children are doing and introduces new words such as 'slicing' and 'scraping'.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are happy and confident in their learning and play. They have secure attachments with the childminder and show they feel safe with her. Children confidently ask her for support when they need it. The childminder is aware of children's changing needs and responds with warmth and care. For example, she notices when children start to tire and adapts her plan so that they can settle for a sleep more quickly.

p.2

The provision is good

Children cooperate extremely well with their friends. They negotiate with each other to share and swap toys. Children smile when the childminder congratulates them for sharing and being kind to each other. Children demonstrate excellent independence skills. They put on their aprons and know when they need to use the toilet and when to tidy away their toys. Children demonstrate excellent manners. They say 'yes please' and 'thank you' when the childminder asks if they would like some milk.

need to do better?

n The childminder completes regular training to improve her skills and interactions with children. She has recently attended a course about supporting children's speech and language development. In addition, she has attended a course to support her in discussing developmental concerns about children with parents. This has helped the childminder to improve the learning experiences of children attending her setting. n The childminder implements good personal hygiene routines, such as handwashing before meals. She encourages and supports children to eat a healthy diet. Children learn to make healthy food choices at snack and mealtimes. They develop a good awareness of being healthy and have learned good social skills in readiness for the next stage in their learning. n The childminder accurately assesses children's learning and development. She works alongside parents to understand what experiences children gain at home

and what they can and cannot yet do. The childminder uses this information to plan a curriculum that targets children's next steps in learning. Her assessment of children's development has enabled her to target specific areas effectively to ensure any gaps in children's learning close quickly.

p.2

need to do better?

22 March 2022 n The childminder provides children with a good range of opportunities to play inside. She offers enjoyable experiences for children to use their imagination and develop the strength in their hands ready for the next stage in their learning. Children squeeze play dough through a nozzle to produce smaller shapes and persevere until they are successful, despite finding this difficult. However, there are less opportunities for children to take and extend their learning in the outdoor environment. n The childminder builds on children's language development well. She names items the children are using. She checks if children have understood the name of certain items. For example, she asks, 'Please could you pass me the scissors,' which children respond to, find the correct item and pass to her. n Parents speak very highly of the childminder and comment that their children have learned a lot since being in her care. Parents comment that their children

'learn new words everyday'. The childminder liaises with parents on a daily basis so that they are fully informed about their child's day and what they have enjoyed doing. The childminder takes care to find out from parents about children's health and well-being so that she can make sure she cares for them appropriately.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder can describe the signs and symptoms of child abuse confidently. She knows how to share any concerns she may have about children with the relevant child protection agencies. The childminder knows how to respond to any allegations of abuse made about herself or anyone else living or working on the premises. She knows to make records of accidents or injuries children arrive at the setting with and completes checks of the home to make sure there are no risks to children's safety. This ensures that children in her care are appropriately protected from harm.
