Information about this children’s home
We last visited this setting on 5 July 2021 to carry out a monitoring visit. This monitoring visit was carried out because of concerns that were raised about the leadership and management arrangements of the home. This visit resulted in Ofsted issuing a compliance notice under regulation 13 and a restriction of accommodation notice. This report is published on our website.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this visit was to monitor the provider’s progress in meeting the compliance notice and to review the restriction of accommodation notice. The four requirements that were raised under regulations 8, 10, 12 and 40 at the full inspection on 5 May 2021 were also considered as part of this visit.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The inspector found that the compliance notice has been met along with the four requirements. There were no further requirements made at this monitoring visit and the decision to lift the restriction of accommodation was made. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2613032 2 Risk assessments are now in place. These give staff clear actions to follow to reduce the risk of harm to the children. The manager and staff update the children’s risk assessments following any significant incidents. This ensures that staff are aware of any changes to the children’s behaviours, so that they can respond to and monitor the risks. This also helps the manager review the children’s risk assessments to determine whether the actions and risk ratings need changing.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children’s behaviour is now being managed better. Staff take direction from the manager with regards to children’s behaviour management. Boundaries are in place and staff are consistent with their approach towards the children. One child said, ‘There are rules in place now. This is good as I know where I stand now. Before I didn’t and was told one thing and given another and that’s when it would kick off.’ The new approach helps staff to be more confident in their decision-making. As a result, children respond well to staff and the number of incidents have reduced.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The manager and staff work hard in the home to make sure that the children love where they live. Children have been involved in decorating the home. Plans are in place for the children’s bedrooms to be decorated. One child said, ‘It’s a nicer environment here now.’
p.2
This monitoring visit
The children are now settled and do not live in a chaotic home. The positive changes that have been made by the manager have had a positive impact on the children’s experiences. All children said that they feel safe and that they like living at the home. One child said, ‘Before, I used to think ‘who will kick off tonight?’ I couldn’t be bothered with it. It was all the time, but I don’t think like that now because no one kicks off here now.’
p.2
This monitoring visit
Social workers consistently report that the children are kept safe. One social worker said, ‘Since the new management, there has been changes. Some big changes. All for the better. [Child’s name] has attended all their appointments, hygiene is better and college attendance got better.’
