p.1

The provision is good

Children are cared for in a safe and calm environment. They settle quickly into the childminder's home and show they are happy, relaxed and thoroughly enjoy their time with her. The childminder places great importance on building strong relationships with children. She kept in touch with children during the COVID 19 (coronavirus) pandemic, which helped to provide consistency on returning to the setting. The childminder tailors each family's settling experience to fully meet their individual needs. Children have strong attachments to the childminder. They seek her out during play and go to her for comfort and reassurance. The childminder has high expectations of children in her care. She provides a curriculum which focuses on helping children move on to the next stages in their learning.

p.2

The provision is good

Children enjoy regular outings to help them to learn about the world around them. For example, the childminder arranges daily visits to the local animal park and walks in the local community. The childminder uses every opportunity to enhance children's learning. For instance, she encourages children to learn about road safety and to recognise familiar objects while on outings.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well and respond to the childminder's positive praise and encouragement. The childminder gathers a wealth of information, including liaising with other professionals, to help her to plan and provide rich learning experiences. The childminder helps all children, including those who might be disadvantaged, to make good progress.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder provides a curriculum that focuses and builds on children's individual learning needs and interests. She allows children time to explore their own ideas and to build on their developing skills. She regularly observes children's play, assesses their progress and plans for the next steps in their learning. n The childminder makes the most of spontaneous opportunities to further support children's physical skills. For example, she builds on children's interests of texture by introducing a treasure basket where they can explore with different materials. Children spend time passing objects with their hands and using body movements to make sounds with them. n The childminder is skilful at introducing new vocabulary during activities and through daily routines. However, the childminder does not always provide opportunities for children to see and hear their home language to help enhance their level of communication.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder reflects on her practice and implements changes she needs to make to raise the standard of her setting. She has made significant

need to do better?

20 May 2021 improvements to her practice since her previous inspection. She seeks the views of parents to help her to reflect on her setting. However, she does not place a sharp enough focus on her professional development to help promote children's learning to the highest level. n Children are beginning to learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles. They have daily access to fresh air, enjoy nutritious meals and learn to clean their hands before eating. n The childminder works closely with parents to help children to settle and to feel secure in her care. She gathers detailed information to help her obtain a good understanding of the children's individual needs and starting points. The childminder regularly shares information with parents about children's care and learning. This helps to promote good continuity for children between the setting and home. n The childminder is caring and attentive. She recognises when children may be

hungry, tired or in need of a cuddle, and she quickly responds to their needs. This supports children to help them to feel emotionally secure.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a secure knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures, and she can clearly identify the signs and symptoms which may indicate that a child is at risk of harm. The childminder has a clear understanding of wider safeguarding issues and the procedures to follow, if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder confidently assesses risks both in the home and for outings, and takes effective action to ensure children's safety. For example, she completes daily risk assessments before children arrive, and the premises are kept clean and tidy.

Information about this early years setting

The childminder registered in 2011 and lives in Woolwich, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. She operates from 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

p.4

Inspection activities

n This was the first routine inspection the setting received since the 2020-21 COVID-19 pandemic. The inspector discussed the impact of the pandemic with the setting and has taken that into account in her evaluation of the setting. n The childminder and the inspector completed a learning walk through areas of the home. This was to see how the early years provision and the curriculum are organised. n A range of documentation was sampled, including records relating to children, safeguarding procedures and the written views of parents. n The inspector observed the childminder's practice during activities and jointly assessed the impact this has on children's learning and development.
