The registered manager left the home on 1 March 2021. The deputy manager has been appointed to this post and will apply to register with Ofsted.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this visit was to consider children’s progress and welfare. This is because the recent reports from the independent visitor did not include any feedback from professionals or discussions with external agencies, such as children’s social workers.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted last inspected the home in March 2020 and completed an interim inspection. This visit took place remotely and in line with COVID-19 (coronavirus) guidance. The inspectors reviewed children’s case files and records and spoke with children and their families, managers, staff and other professionals.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The independent visitor has continued to visit the home during the COVID-19 pandemic. When this has not been possible, they have completed virtual visits. However, the independent visitor’s reports lack regular consultation with children’s social workers and other relevant professionals. This lack of discussion means that the independent visitor does not consider the views of others when determining if children are safeguarded effectively.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children express their wishes and feelings through regular one-to-one sessions. The manager ensures that children are listened to. Where appropriate, she ensures that action is taken to address children’s concerns and respond to their requests. For example, a child recently asked to spend more time with friends and family and this Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2509365 2 was agreed. Consequently children feel involved in decisions about their care and are able to raise any concerns that they may have.

This monitoring visit
Children’s risk assessments provide staff with guidance on how to manage and reduce risks to their safety and welfare. The manager updates these risk assessments following each incident. This ensures that staff are able to respond effectively to emerging patterns of behaviour, such as if children go missing from the home. The staff are aware of the plans in place and follow the strategies to reduce risk to the children. As a result, the children receive consistent care from the staff.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff have supported the children to continue with their education during the COVID- 19 pandemic. Children are attending suitable education placements that meet their individual needs. As a result, children make good progress in this area of their development.
p.2
This monitoring visit
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the children have engaged in activities within the home and the garden. This has helped them to develop new skills and to forge positive relationships with staff. For example, children and staff built a chicken coop for the home’s chickens. These achievements support children’s self-esteem and help them to grow in confidence.
