p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children spend very little time engaged in meaningful play. Their individual needs and unique abilities are not given enough consideration. Children are not motivated to learn or provided with activities that offer challenge. Younger children do not receive the support they need to take part in activities. They spend a significant amount of time on their own as they wander around the environment. Children do not have sufficient space to play and they struggle to access the resources.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Children are not safeguarded effectively. They are left unsupervised with pet cats and pet feeding bowls, which compromises their safety. The childminder's record- keeping is not robust, such as the recording of children's attendance.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The children have secure attachments with the childminder, who is kind and caring. Despite the lack of engagement, children behave well and demonstrate that they know the childminder's expectations of them, such as at mealtimes and during nappy changing. Children have unique opportunities to go on outings. Some examples of this include visiting the local farm and going to singing groups in the library. This helps to widen children's experiences and supports them to develop more confidence in social situations. Older children show that they are happy and content.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder does not offer children purposeful play opportunities. The activities provided do not focus on gaps in children's learning and what they need to learn next. The childminder does not consider how she can include younger children in group activities. Therefore, children do not receive the support they need to learn. n The childminder fails to provide effective interaction during play. She does not support children's language development consistently. For example, the childminder asked a child what the play dough smelt like and their response was not acknowledged. Furthermore, she asks children questions that they already know, such as naming colours. Consequently, children struggle to maintain their attention, problem solve or build on what they already know. n The childminder does not organise her premises and equipment in a way that meets the needs of children. The lack of space leaves little room for children to

play and explore, and this impacts on their learning. The childminder has a vast amount of resources. However, resources are inaccessible to children because they stored in boxes or out of children's reach. Her poor planning of the environment further contributes to children's lack of engagement within the setting.

p.2

need to do better?

12 March 2020 n The childminder does not identify all possible hazards in the environment to ensure children are protected from harm, such as the risk that pets on the premises pose to children. The childminder does not have a good understanding of the procedures to follow if an allegation of harm is made against anyone who works or lives on the premises. The childminder does not keep an accurate written record of children's attendance. This means she does not have all the information she needs to help her to monitor children's safety and welfare. Furthermore, the childminder failed to keep Ofsted up to date with a change to her circumstances; this is a breach of requirements. n The childminder's partnership with parents is effective. She finds out about children's interests and experiences before they start at the setting. For example, children take part in messy play opportunities that they do not experience at home. The childminder shares children's targets with parents.

p.2

need to do better?

Parents comment how much they value and appreciate the care and experiences that the childminder provides for children. The childminder works with other settings to provide a consistent approach to the care of children. n Older children are content to join in with activities. They can listen to and follow simple instructions. For example, after participating in a musical instrument activity, they willingly put the instruments back in the box to tidy away. Children are confident and interact with adults they are less familiar with. n Children benefit from healthy meals provided. The childminder follows appropriate hygiene practices, such as when changing children's nappies and handwashing before meals.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder is not aware of the procedure she should follow if an allegation is made against her. However, she can identify the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. The childminder does not maintain an accurate record of children's hours of attendance. This compromises children's safety, for example, in the event of an emergency. The childminder does not take appropriate action to ensure children's safety on the premises. The children have access to things that may be unsafe, such as a pet feeding bowl.
