p.1

The provision is good

Well-thought-out settling-in systems support children to build strong bonds with the experienced childminder. Children feel safe and secure in her care. The childminder works closely with parents to develop a strong understanding of children's individual care routines and interests. This helps her plan activities that support children's learning from the outset.

p.2

The provision is good

Children respond warmly to the childminder. They are visibly happy and content. The childminder supports children to develop strong social skills. For instance, during games of skittles she consistently helps them to develop a clear understanding that games have rules. Children develop good control and coordination. They delight in seeing who can knock over the most pins and enjoy sharing their play with the childminder. Children's behaviour is very good. They confidently take turns, share and listen carefully to instructions.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are developing good communication and literacy skills. For example, they enjoy singing familiar songs and rhymes, and are excited to show the childminder the actions. They are keen to practise writing the letters of their name. The childminder successfully teaches children the language of feelings and to understand the different emotions that they may have. For instance, children are keen to demonstrate different facial expressions and confidently show their 'happy', 'sad' and 'grumpy' faces.

need to do better?

n A well-balanced curriculum supports children to make good progress in their development, across all seven areas of learning. Children are offered a wide variety of play and learning experiences, indoors and outdoors. The childminder uses her careful observations and assessments to plan next steps that support children to develop the skills and knowledge for the next stages in their learning. However, the childminder has identified that there is opportunity to support children's home learning even more effectively. n The childminder supports children to develop a good understanding of early mathematical language. For instance, as children use different cutters when using play dough she encourages them to identify the shapes and colours. She supports the youngest children to learn to count in sequence. n Children have access to a well-resourced environment where they can easily access a wide range of toys and resources. The childminder promotes an

environment where children are respected and valued. Children concentrate well and sustain interest in activities for long periods. However, sometimes, the childminder does things for children that they could do themselves and misses opportunities to promote children's independence even further.

need to do better?

10 February 2020 n Children are offered a wide variety of opportunities to learn about their local community and socialise with larger groups of children. For instance, they enjoy frequent trips to the local park to feed the ducks, visit soft-play centres and attend local activity groups. n Children develop strong hygiene practices. The childminder is a good role model and consistently supports children to learn the importance of cleaning their hands and faces before and after eating. Young children's care routines are sensitively supported. n The childminder and her co-childminder work closely together to reflect on their practice and identify ways to develop their service. The childminder attends a wide variety of training to update her knowledge and skills. For instance, since her last inspection she has attended training in supporting sensory play opportunities which has helped her to extend the activities that she provides for

children. n The childminder develops strong partnerships with parents. Parents receive a wide variety of information about their children's learning, including messages about their achievements, photographs and daily conversations. Parents express high levels of satisfaction with the care provided to their children. They praise the good progress that their children make and the well-resourced environment. They comment that their children are 'thriving and happy'.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a secure understanding of her safeguarding responsibilities to keep children safe from harm. She attends relevant safeguarding training, including courses in wider child protection issues. She has a good knowledge of the signs and symptoms that indicate a child may be at risk of abuse, neglect or being drawn into extreme behaviours or ideas. The childminder keeps the premises secure. She continually assesses her home to minimise any hazards to ensure that it is safe for children.
