p.1
The provision requires improvement
The provision for children has improved since the last inspection. Children now play in a clean and uncluttered space. They are transported in vehicles which are adequately insured and there is an accurate record of children's attendance. However, records of medication administration to children are not fully up to date. On occasions, the childminder does not fully supervise younger children attending on a temporary basis, for example, when distracted to help older children. While younger children's safety is not compromised, the childminder has not considered her temporary arrangements well enough.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
Children between the age of two and three years now have a progress check completed by the childminder. This is shared with parents and other agencies. However, observations and assessments of children at other times are not used effectively enough to track their progress and extend activities to support their learning. Children who learn better outdoors are not offered outdoor or physical play opportunities on a regular enough basis, especially during the winter months. Children are offered a variety of activities. However, the childminder has yet to improve her knowledge of how to deliver a strong early years curriculum.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
Children show kindness to each other, and the childminder praises children for this. Overall, their behaviour is good. The childminder demonstrates patience as she soothes children to sleep and shows an understanding of children's differing needs, for example when she finds a more suitable bottle for a child to drink from.

need to do better?
n The childminder does not consider the needs of younger children attending on a temporary basis well enough. For example, when required to assist older children in the toilet upstairs, she does not make suitable provision to supervise younger children. n The childminder makes appropriate use of local toddler groups, where children socialise with others. During the summer months, children have good opportunities to explore sand and water and practise physical skills on ride-on toys, in the childminder's garden. However, children do not have outdoor physical play experiences, on a daily basis, in the winter months. n The childminder has procedures in place to administer and record medication given to children, but on one occasion records were not accurately maintained. n The childminder does not work in partnership with other settings that children attend in order to create a two-way flow of information to enable them to

determine effective next steps in learning for those children. n Children show interest in completing puzzles. The childminder helps children to persevere, offering encouragement as two children work out how to correctly fit

Children learn some self-care skills and follow good hygiene routines when they use the toilet, wash and dry their hands and dispose of the paper hand towel. n The childminder asks open questions to encourage children's language. However, she misses the opportunity to extend the activities, so that children learn new skills, for example cutting with scissors and learning how to do more things for themselves, ready for their next stage in learning. n Children speak with clarity and confidently ask for help. They seek out the childminder for cuddles and snuggle in beside her when she tells stories. They know how to turn the pages of books and eagerly join in with familiar songs, knowing what actions go with which song. n The childminder has a close partnership with parents. Many parents are very

complimentary of her service. They feel well informed and state that she is 'caring, nurturing and kind', commenting on the guidance and advice with parenting that she has given them. n Children demonstrate that they feel comfortable in the childminder's care. Even children who are attending for the first time quickly settle and are happy. The childminder finds about what children know and can do and meets their individual needs.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has completed mandatory safeguarding and paediatric first-aid training. She has a satisfactory knowledge of child protection issues and is able to speak about the signs that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. The childminder also has adequate knowledge of wider safeguarding concerns, such as where children may be at risk of extreme views or exploitation. She understands when to seek help and how to report her concerns to the local authority. The childminder has safe fire evacuation procedures, which minded children know and can follow.
