p.1
The provision is good
The childminder develops positive relationships with the children. They settle quickly, and are happy and well cared for in a safe environment. Children are eager to join in with their friends. They take off their shoes, so they are comfortable, and hang their coats on their special pegs on arrival. Children know and understand simple rules and boundaries. For example, they know to sit down when they are eating or drinking. The childminder encourages children to be aware of the feelings of others. They behave well and learn good manners. Children enjoy exploring their surroundings and they can independently access toys from low-level units. Babies are given lots of room to explore their surroundings by crawling safely and cruising using the furniture.

The provision is good
The childminder incorporates mathematical concepts into children's play. For example, she helps children consider how much sand they scoop into their container and whether it is half full. The childminder talks with children and helps them to increase their vocabulary. They have lots of opportunities to play and learn outside in the garden. Children improve their physical skills, for example, by riding tricycles and kicking footballs. They screech with excitement when the trains go past.

need to do better?
n Parents are extremely positive about the 'wonderful childminder'. They particularly value the regular updates about their children's learning and care. They report that the childminder offers a flexible and caring settling-in process to help children separate easily. Children love attending and parents can go to work knowing their children are safe and well cared for. n Children enjoy a range of activities and experiences to learn about their local area. They go on regular walks, visit the nearby parks and attend childminder groups, which enhances their physical development and social skills. n Babies have a lovely time. They have strong attachments to the childminder, and smile and approach her if they need a cuddle. Babies enjoy sitting alongside the older children, watching and learning. n The childminder provides a wide range of resources and activities. Children put on aprons and paint the fallen leaves they have collected from one of their

walks. Older children can identify different colours. However, the childminder does not consistently extend children's learning further to keep them fully engaged and interested. n Children are polite and respectful towards one another. Older children are particularly caring and considerate towards the babies. Children share and take turns. They play cooperatively and use their imaginations. For example, the older children set up an ice-cream shop and pretend to sell chocolate and

Mathematical language is intertwined into everyday play. Children talk about items being next to, above and under each other. They learn to add and take away numbers, which supports their mathematical development. n Children enjoy exploring sensory play. They paint pictures, play in the sand and water and knead play dough. The childminder helps children develop the muscles in their hands to help them with their early writing skills. She supports older children to hold a pencil correctly. n The childminder helps to extend children's vocabulary. She reads stories and sings songs and rhymes with them. They know the words and actions and sing along to 'The Wheels on the Bus' and 'Dingle Dangle Scarecrow'. They laugh together and have a lot of fun.

need to do better?
n Children's good health is supported well. They wash their hands before eating and have their own special hand towel, which they use to stop the spread of infection. Children brush their teeth after meals. They help the childminder cook healthy and nutritious meals. Children are reminded to drink water to keep them hydrated. n The childminder has an accurate overview of what she does well and areas for development. However, she was unaware of the need to inform Ofsted about changes to her health. During the inspection, the breach was discussed and she acknowledged that she had overlooked this requirement.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has recently attended training to keep her child protection knowledge up to date. She is aware of the signs of abuse and neglect and knows the local referral procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She identifies and successfully minimises potential risks in her home and garden, which keeps children safe. The childminder effectively keeps children safe on outings. Children walk sensibly and learn about road safety.
