Children feel safe and secure to explore and investigate, indoors and in the garden.  Children are very comfortable and happily engage in play with the childminder and each other. The childminder celebrates children's achievements enthusiastically and offers consistent praise to build their self-esteem.  The childminder develops effective partnerships with parents. of development and to help children moving on from her care.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to help younger children to develop their understanding of numbers, sizes and shapes.  The childminder does not extend younger children's learning about individuals' similarities and differences in the wider world.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend opportunities for younger children to develop their early mathematical skills  provide more experiences for younger children to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked at the areas of the home used by children.  The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with the children during a range of activities.  The inspector discussed children's learning and development with the childminder.  The inspector reviewed the childminder's policies, looked at children's records and checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and suitability.  The inspector took account of the views of parents expressed in written responses.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder uses her procedures and takes regular training, for example, to help keep children safe and support their well-being. The childminder has met all actions and recommendations from the last inspection. She provides a very good range of activities and experiences that support children's individual learning needs in all play spaces. The childminder plans well and adapts activities to meet children's individual interests and keep them engaged. Children can now safely access a wide range of appropriate resources and toys, supporting them to make choices about their play. The childminder has developed effective reflective practice and, for example, has used training and advice to make ongoing improvements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder works well with parents to identify children's starting points and their ongoing learning at home. She monitors and assesses children's progress effectively to identify any gaps in learning quickly. Children have access to a good variety of indoor and outdoor activities that encourage their curiosity and imagination, and challenge them well. The childminder supports children to use the resources independently, and she guides children skilfully towards achieving their next steps in learning. Children are developing good communication and language skills. The childminder makes good use of conversations and questioning to extend their learning. She supports children's thought processes effectively and gives them the time to solve problems for themselves.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and settled. The childminder provides children with clear guidance that helps them play and share with others well. She helps children to feel emotionally and physically secure in her setting, and to develop good levels of self-esteem. She takes time to get to know the children well and follows individual routines and care practices. Children have many opportunities during daily routines, such as snack time, to help them learn. The childminder encourages children's understanding of a healthy lifestyle and physical well-being. For example, children eat nutritious food and they learn about the benefits of exercise and about how to keep themselves safe.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children become enthusiastic learners who are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and their eventual move to school. They develop their physical skills well. They are very confident and independent learners who eagerly engage in a wide range of activities. For example, children delighted in a singing session where they listened well and readily followed the actions with skill.
