p.1
The provision is inadequate
Although the childminder observes children as they play, she is not using her assessments well enough to plan activities that help support their learning in all areas. In addition, she has not completed statutory assessments. Activities that are planned are often based on children's interests and not on the seven areas of learning or what they need to learn next. This does not help children to make the good progress they are capable of. The childminder talks to children during activities, for example asking 'what colour is the pencil?' during a colouring activity, and this supports their communication skills. At other times, the childminder does not model language to further extend children's learning. Children enjoy cuddles and demonstrate that they feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. She teaches children how to be safe, for instance they understand why they must remain behind the safety gate when hot meals are being prepared in the kitchen.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children are supported to be independent and are able to wash their hands for themselves when they get messy. The childminder reinforces her expectations for good behaviour with the children.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder has not taken enough action since the last inspection to improve the quality of learning and raise outcomes for children. Gaps in the childminder's knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements limit how well she can extend their understanding across all the seven areas of learning. n The childminder does not have a valid public liability insurance certificate, which is a requirement. n The childminder pays insufficient regard to her professional development and does not keep her knowledge and skills up to date. Although she has attended various training events, her knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements are still poor. This means that she is not doing enough to build on what children already know and can do. In addition, the childminder does not evaluate her practice in order to identify where improvements can be made. n The childminder shares information with parents verbally about their children's

day. However, she does not routinely share information about the progress they are making across the seven areas of learning. Parents are therefore not given the information they need to help extend their children's learning at home. n Children willingly take part in the activities provided; however, the plentiful resources are not organised in a way that supports children to make independent choices about what they want to play with. n Teaching is not good enough. The childminder has a poor understanding of teaching children and how they learn. She misses opportunities to help children

20 September 2019 extend their knowledge and skills during activities and play. Furthermore, the childminder does not know how to consistently demonstrate that she knows how to help children develop their communication and language skills. n Due to children not being engaged in all aspects of their learning, the opportunities for them to develop resilience and high levels of concentration are weak.
p.2
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder supervises children well. She teaches them how to keep themselves safe. Children know how to stay safe when going on trips. For example, they hold hands and look left and right when crossing the road. The childminder knows the importance of monitoring children's non-attendance, and she contacts parents or emergency contacts when children are absent. She reminds children of the rules of the setting, and what is acceptable behaviour. The childminder has up- to-date safeguarding training and knows how to recognise and report a concern about children's well-being should the need arise.
