What the setting needs to do to improve further
Inspection activities n The inspector held discussions with the childminder to explore her understanding of requirements. n The inspector and the childminder jointly observed children as they engaged in play and observed the quality of teaching. n The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times. n The inspector discussed the methods that the childminder uses to develop her knowledge and practice. n The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding purposes and a range of resources used for children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates an appropriate awareness of child protection procedures. She is now aware of the requirement to keep Ofsted informed of specific incidents that take place in her home that may impact on the suitability of her or others living in the premises. The childminder maintains most required records. The approach to self-evaluation is not thorough, this includes not completing all actions raised at the previous inspection. Parents' feedback at inspection reflects they are satisfied with the service offered.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Overall, children have access to a suitable variety of resources to reflect most areas of learning. Children make selections of their own from a well organised range of play materials. They play for long periods and the childminder gives appropriate levels of support. Children acquire a range of skills as the childminder models learning well as she plays alongside them. There is change of play throughout the day to engage children's interest. Although the childminder has a strong awareness of children's current learning from her observations, she does not use the information gained to plan effectively for the children's next steps in their learning journey in all areas of development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children behave well and learn good manners as the childminder models this well for children to use spontaneously in their exchanges. She values children and praises their achievements often, boosting their growing self-confidence. Children go out in the community daily, such as to visit the library or the park. They learn about road safety and personal safety when out in the community, such as how to take risks safely when learning to climb the climbing frame in the park. Children are transported at times in the childminder's car, however, she is not able to provide evidence of her vehicle insurance. This impacts on safeguarding children when transporting them.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Overall, children develop skills they need to support their move to school. For example, they develop a broad range of vocabulary, they are creative and develop early problem- solving skills. However, there are missed opportunities to support children as effectively as possible to help them make the best progress in line with their current developmental goals.
