The provision is good
Children are safe, happy, settled and thrive in the childminder's care. They form trusting relationships and strong bonds with her. The childminder is caring and considerate. She instinctively reacts to young children's needs, giving them lots of reassurance and supporting their physical and emotional well-being effectively. Children behave well and their social skills are very good for their age. The childminder patiently helps them to appreciate the needs of others. Young children enjoy playing together and quickly learn to share and take turns with toys.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder sets out her home in a stimulating and inviting way. Children have access to a wide range of good-quality resources which provide them with interesting play opportunities, both inside and outdoors. The childminder takes time to encourage children's independence and application to different tasks. She gives them lots of encouragement and praise, helping to build their confidence and empowering them to do things for themselves. Children develop their hand-to-eye coordination well. They gain dexterity and strength that will support their early writing skills, for example by using one-handed tools, pressing buttons and turning leavers, and persisting when challenges occur.

need to do better?
n Children learn to communicate well. Older babies listen and show their understanding as they respond to questions and follow instructions. They cooperate well, toddling off to get ready for mealtimes and excitedly babbling to the childminder. Children chat confidently and happily take turns in conversation. n Overall, the childminder has effective processes to help her outline gaps in children's development. She plans experiences to help children make good progress in their learning. However, her outlined assessments of children's learning are occasionally pitched too high. Her subsequent outlined next steps in children's learning are then at times not appropriately achievable for children's stage of development. n Children develop their physical skills well and enjoy being active in the fresh air. The childminder offers reassuring words and timely reminders to help children safely move around the different levels of her garden. Young children toddle

about excitedly and have great fun playing peek-a-boo from the little role-play house or showing their skills kicking footballs. n The childminder's playful interactions engage and motivate children effectively. Her teaching is good. She skilfully inspires children's interest, encouraging them to try new things and introducing different ideas to expand their understanding. For example, older babies are fascinated with the slots and dials the childminder shows them on the toy toaster. Young children enjoy learning names of different

Children develop curiosity and positive attitudes and the essential skills that they will need for their future learning. n The childminder's relationships with parents are good. They are very positive about her service and the care and educational opportunities that she provides for their children. The childminder regularly shares information with parents about all aspects of children's care and learning. However, occasionally this information is not as precise as it could be and therefore parents do not gain a clear picture of children's progress and what they need to learn next. n The childminder shows dedication to improving and developing her provision. She has fulfilled the recommendations from her last inspection and has recently made changes to her garden, to enable children's access all year round. The childminder links with other childminders for professional discussions and to gain
