This provision is good
Overall, the quality of teaching is good. The childminder provides children with a variety of interesting learning opportunities. Children make consistently good progress from their starting points. Children have a very caring relationship with the childminder. They learn to share and respect each other. Children develop positive attitudes towards learning and this prepares them well as they move on to school. The childminder is dedicated to driving improvement forward. She brings about effective change to her setting and provides interesting experiences in direct response to children's learning needs. This helps children to make consistently good progress. Children benefit from a joined-up understanding of their needs because the childminder has developed effective relationships with parents, other professionals and providers. This consistency has a particularly positive impact on those children who are learning
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to extend children's all- round development in the outdoor environment, to support those children who prefer to learn outdoors. Children do not have regular opportunities to explore and investigate using their senses.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held a leadership and management discussion with the childminder. The inspector sampled a range of policies, including children's learning records. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector spoke with children and took the written views of parents into consideration.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements robust safeguarding procedures and understands child protection issues. The childminder effectively promotes children's safety and welfare. The childminder successfully identifies training needs that have a positive impact on children's learning and development. For example, the childminder has improved her understanding of how to observe children at play. She accurately evaluates learning, monitors children's progress and plans for their future learning. The childminder reflects on her practice and makes changes that improve children's learning experiences. For example, she has introduced real-life resources that have enhanced children's imaginative play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is good and children experience high quality interactions with the childminder that help to extend their understanding. For example, the childminder uses a telescope to look at objects with children and uses this experience to extend their naming vocabulary. The childminder is good at evaluating children's learning; she effectively tracks children's progress and this helps her to identify and remedy any gaps in development. The childminder plans educational programmes that promote learning and are in tune with children's interests. For example, the childminder uses children's favourite television characters as a starting point for a role play game and this effectively promotes children's language development. Children confidently choose the things they would like to play with; they have lots of opportunities to follow their own ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave in a helpful and positive way. For example, they sit up at the table at snack time and learn to say 'Please' and 'Thank you'. Children choose from a wide range of interesting indoor resources. They make independent decisions and learn to take responsibility for their actions. For example, they tidy away their toys and are encouraged to help each other. Children improve their physical abilities outside. They learn to climb, balance and to kick a ball. Children get plenty of fresh air and exercise. They develop an understanding of healthy lifestyles and routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident, happy and settled. They develop good social skills and behave really well. Children enjoy looking at books as part of their early literacy skills. Their communication and language are developing well. Children develop skills that will help them when they move on to pre-school and school.
