This provision is inadequate

n The childminder does not reflect on her practice or seek the views of parents to help her to improve her childminding service. She has not established an effective two-way communication system with parents. Consequently, children's learning is not fully supported. n The childminder does not maintain an accurate register of children's attendance. As a result, it is not clear when she has cared for children, and this compromises children's safety. n The childminder does not maintain a record for each child in her care regarding their personal and family details. This means she does not have the required information to support children's well-being effectively. n The childminder does not provide activities that meet children's individual learning needs. This means she does not offer sufficient opportunities for children to have the best possible learning experience. As a result, children are not making typical progress

p.1

It has the following strengths

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector held discussions with the childminder and observed her when caring for children. n The inspector viewed all areas used to care for children. n The inspector reviewed a range of relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability of the childminder, paediatric first aid and the safeguarding policy and procedure. n The inspector spoke to children at various points during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate

Safeguarding is not effective. The childminder does not have a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow if an allegation of abuse is made about someone living or working on the premises. Her safeguarding policy also lacks the required detail to support her to take the correct action in the event she has a concern about a child. The childminder has not attended any training to help improve her knowledge and understanding of the early years foundation stage requirements. As a result, she cannot meet children's learning and welfare needs. The childminder does not involve parents in their children's development. Therefore, parents are not given information they need to support their children's learning at home. As a result, children's progress is limited. The childminder does not maintain an accurate record of when children attend. This means she cannot confirm the exact times she is responsible for them. The childminder has not recorded

p.3

Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate

information required to ensure the welfare and safety of children in her care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

The childminder does not have a robust knowledge of how children learn and develop. She does not monitor their progress effectively or identify clearly what they need to learn next. The activities she plans and provides do not challenge children to build on their knowledge, ready for their next stage in learning. For example, children play with building blocks and make structures. However, this does not provide them with suitable challenge relevant to their age and stage of development. The childminder asks children questions about the colour of the bricks, but the children already know the answer and quickly become bored and disengaged.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

The childminder does not comply with the safeguarding and welfare requirements. Consequently, she does not support children's safety and welfare appropriately. The childminder does not provide resources and equipment for children that stimulate their interest. As a result, children frequently ask for the television to be put on and become disruptive when the childminder says no. Children who do show good concentration in their play, only do so for short periods of time. However, the childminder does have fun with the children. They laugh with her as she intentionally sings the wrong words to a song.

p.3

Outcomes for children are inadequate

The childminder is not clear as to the specific progress children are making in her care because she does not know their stages of development well enough. Children are not making the progress they are capable of. However, children show some skills in their independence. For example, they know when they need to use the toilet. Some children display early literacy skills. For example, they are able to hold pencils with a pincer grip, and they can draw ladybirds, flowers and attempt to write numbers.
