n The experienced and qualified childminder's passion for working with young children shines through in all she does. She continually takes steps to enhance her already excellent practice even further, for the benefit of the children who attend. n Children flourish and show an extremely secure emotional attachment to the childminder. She responds to them with genuine warmth. Children's excellent behaviour and high levels of self-confidence show they are very settled and happy in the childminder's care. n The quality of the childminder's teaching is inspiring. She places a strong emphasis on supporting children's communication and language development. She is highly skilled and purposeful in her interactions. The childminder uses varied teaching strategies to ensure children below typical levels of development catch up quickly. n The childminder is very skilled at supporting children to revisit learning and building on

what they know and can do. For example, three-year-old children already confident in recognising and using the sounds of lower-case letters are now eagerly progressing on to learning about upper-case letters. n The curriculum for mathematics is extremely well planned and effectively helps children develop a deeper understanding of numbers and the properties of shapes. Children show immense levels of engagement in their learning and make excellent progress from their starting points. n Partnerships with parents are exceptional. Parents receive regular and thorough feedback about their children's learning and development and information on how they may promote this at home. Parents speak extremely highly of the childminder, saying that their children have 'progressed hugely in all areas of their education'. n The childminder shares detailed information of children's level of progress with other settings children attend. This promotes a smooth transition for children and supports

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector spoke with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning and personal development. n The inspector jointly evaluated the success of activities with the childminder. n The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including records relating to children, safeguarding procedures, self-evaluation and the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder strives for excellence and meticulously evaluates her provision. She uses highly focused professional development to continuously raise the quality of her teaching. She involves parents and children in the process and, through this, has come to recognise she can develop children's already excellent communication and language skills even further, for instance by using the same programme of signs and gestures that parents use at home. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of the requirements and of how to keep children safe from harm. She is watchful for any signs that would give cause for concern and is clear on the correct reporting procedures.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder makes full use of her excellent knowledge of how children learn and develop. She monitors and assesses children's progress precisely and accurately targets the next steps in their learning. She skilfully transforms a simple activity, such as building with blocks, into a wealth of learning. For instance, she used the correct mathematical language to name and describe the shapes, such as 'the cube has corners and straight edges'. She passed her finger along them, which children copied. Without prompting, children demonstrated their excellent understanding and prior learning as they felt a cylinder shape and described it as having a 'curved edge'. The childminder sits with children to promote conversation, skilfully using open-ended questions and setting challenges to encourage children to think.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children thrive in the highly stimulating home environment. Children were absorbed as they listened intently to the childminder and joyously played a matching sound game. Children's safety is central to everything the childminder does. For example, the childminder encourages supervised, risky play as children build with tyres and planks in her garden. Children solve problems and increase confidence in their own abilities, which greatly promotes their sense of well-being. They show they are learning extremely well how to manage risks and keep safe as they talk about whether the structures are stable and safe to climb on. The childminder provides many interesting opportunities to help children to learn about and respect their local community and the wider world.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children make exceptionally good progress and are developing the skills needed for future learning. They have a great interest in books and enjoy listening to stories and singing songs. Three-year-olds develop high levels of independence, such as when independently removing and hanging their coat, and excellent physical skills. They show very well-developed mathematical skills, counting out more than 20 objects and completing simple calculations. They talk in clear sentences, using a broad vocabulary and different tenses. Children make marks and proudly show their artwork.
