Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has good knowledge of child protection. She knows the signs that may cause her to be concerned about a child's welfare and the procedure to follow in these circumstances. She supervises children well and makes regular risk assessments to check the play areas and equipment are safe. The childminder strives to make improvements to the service she provides. She reflects on her practice and identifies priorities to improve provision and practice. She is proactive in addressing suggestions made by parents, such as when potty training. The childminder assesses and monitors children's learning from the start. She uses her knowledge and skills to provide good-quality learning experiences and opportunities that support children's good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are confident learners. They eagerly explore filling and emptying different sized containers in the sand and water tray. They communicate well, and all children benefit from the positive interaction of the childminder. They are excited to learn. Children challenge each other and develop new skills as they discuss how to climb a tree. They show interest in early writing and reading skills. Children make choices of what they want to play with. They are focused and engage for long periods in activities they select. Children recognise different colours when identifying their bowl at breakfast and lunchtime. Older children discuss that 'koala bears live in Australia' and 'eat leaves'. They use their imagination well, as they give first-aid treatment to an injured doll.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has created a well-resourced environment. Children choose from accessible toys and equipment, which helps to develop their independence and decision making. The childminder provides a good range of opportunities to support their physical well-being and good health. For example, older children played football in the garden while younger children crawled in and out of pop-up tents. Children form strong bonds with the childminder, who knows them well. She acts as a good role model and sets clear boundaries and rules. The childminder supports children to gain a good understanding of safety. For example, she talks to children about what to do if they get lost. Children tidy away after lunch, and wipe their faces and hands with a warm flannel. The childminder gives rewards for children's achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder supports children well so that they make good progress from when they start and are ready for their move on to school. Children engage in good opportunities to develop skills for writing and mathematics. They follow instructions and undertake personnel care, such as washing and drying their hands after using the toilet. Overall, children are expressive and confident in their interaction with others. They benefit from reassurance and praise, which helps to boost their self-esteem.
