Outcomes for children Requires improvement
p.1
This is a provision that requires improvement
n The childminder does not systematically use her knowledge of what children know and can do to plan their next learning steps. This was a weakness at the last inspection. Activities do not offer enough challenge for the older, most able children. n The childminder does not take all reasonable steps to ensure that the outdoor area is always secure. This creates the risk of a child leaving the premises unsupervised and unauthorised persons entering the premises. n The childminder does not put enough emphasis on children learning about other communities' cultures and traditions. n The childminder does not fully consider ways to evaluate practice and improve the quality of learning experiences for children. She does not take all opportunities to access training and professional development to help raise the quality of teaching for herself and her assistant.
p.1
It has the following strengths
n Relationships within the setting are good. Children are happy, secure and settled. They approach the childminder and her assistant readily when they need support or to express their needs. n Children are well behaved. They understand that there is appropriate behaviour for different situations. For example, they know that they sit at the table to eat snacks and meals. They are polite and use manners, such as 'please' and 'thank you'. n Children enjoy playing in the garden and using the range of equipment. Their physical skills are good. For example, very young children ride balancing bicycles with confidence. This helps to build their skills so that they can ride pedal bicycles.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date ensure that the outdoor area is secure to prevent children leaving the premises unsupervised and unauthorised persons entering the premises 29/07/2019

n strengthen self-evaluation and use the findings to develop a programme of training and professional development to help raise the quality of teaching and learning experiences for children n provide children with more opportunities to learn about different communities, cultures and traditions.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
n The inspector observed children's activities indoors and outdoors. n The inspector spoke to childminder, her assistant and children during the inspection. n The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. n The inspector gained information from the local authority about support given to the setting. n The inspector carried out joint observation with the childminder. n The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a range of other documentation, including a sample of policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder lacks confidence and finds it difficult to communicate high expectations for the service she provides. This is a barrier to driving rapid improvement. Teaching is not as effective as it could be, as the childminder does not consider opportunities for professional development for herself and her assistant. Overall, the childminder has made some progress since the last inspection. Medication records are now in place. These include parents giving written permission to administer particular medication. The childminder ensures that parents are informed when medication has been administered. All required documentation is appropriately maintained. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder's assistant has completed safeguarding training since the last inspection. The childminder and her assistant both understand their roles and responsibilities to protect children from harm. Partnerships with parents are positive. They now receive a written

report of their child's progress during their second year.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The experienced childminder provides children with a wide range of appropriate activities. These cover all areas of the curriculum. Children eagerly engage in activities and make progress in their learning. For example, during a collage activity, all children maintain good concentration. They use craft materials and equipment to produce pictures of their families. As they work they talk about who is who in their families. The childminder has a secure knowledge of what children know and can do. However, she does not take account of how the activities can be shaped to suit different children, and teaching does not always precisely target their next steps in learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children learn key skills to help them when they transition to their next place of learning. For example, they go to the toilet independently and wash their hands as part of the routine. They can dress and undress themselves. They make friends with one another and can express themselves to make their needs known. However, they do not have enough opportunities to learn about families, communities and traditions outside of their own experience. Children enjoy healthy snacks and meals. On hot days they learn the importance of drinking water and applying sun cream.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Generally, children are making progress typical for their age, but older children are not always challenged to help them make even better progress. Children identified with gaps in their development receive extra support. The childminder helps their families to link with the appropriate services.
