Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her role and responsibilities to protect the children in her care. She visually monitors the safety of her home to reduce risks to children. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection and how to recognise concerns about a child. She is familiar with the local procedures to follow to protect children's safety or welfare. The childminder has successfully addressed recommendations previously raised. For example, she has reorganised her play resources to enable children to have ease of access to them. The childminder regularly reviews her provision in order to help improve her practice, taking into account the views of parents.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder accurately tracks the progress children make. This means that she can identify where children have gaps in their learning, and provide activities to help support their development. She works well with parents to establish information on what children like and can do when they first start in her care. From this, she provides toys and resources to support their interests and build on their existing knowledge. Younger children show fascination with technology as they press and turn knobs on activity centres. They listen carefully to the sound it makes and watch as it lights up. The childminder is skilful in promoting children's language. She continually chatters away to young children as they engage in play and responds to their babbles. This has a positive effect on children, who are becoming confident when using their early communication skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is caring and affectionate. Children demonstrate that they have built secure and trusting relationships with childminder and her family. The childminder promotes the development of children's physical skills effectively. For example, young children are able to develop their large physical movements as they crawl through the play tunnel. The childminder supports children's good health well. For instance, she provides healthy snacks that consist of fresh fruit. She encourages parents to provide healthy meals, which she stores appropriately to ensure children's welfare. The childminder takes children to local toddler groups and attractions. This provides them with ample opportunities to play and socialise with other children in the community.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are developing the key skills they need to support their future learning and the eventual move to school. Younger children concentrate intently as they access puzzles with keys and try to open the locks. Children thoroughly enjoy playing together using their creativity. For example, they manoeuvre toy cars and trains along the car mat. Younger children learn the concept of counting as they dance around and listen to number rhymes and songs. Children become independent during familiar lunchtime routines. For instance, they know to wash their hands before they eat and are beginning to feed themselves.
