This provision is good

 The childminder has improved the quality of her provision since the last inspection. She has effective relationships with parents and keeps them well informed of their children's learning. She encourages them to share any achievements made at home to ensure she is up to date with children's progress.  Children are happy and settled in the childminder's home and have warm and nurturing relationships with her. She meets their care needs well.  The childminder has a strong focus on healthy eating and children enjoy eating healthy snacks which are prepared alongside them. For example, the childminder encourages children to see the fruit in its natural form, introduces fruit names and children happily discuss what they see throughout the activity.  The childminder pitches her discussions at the right level. She is a good example for the children in the way to treat others. Children's progress is checked carefully and they

are guided well in their learning. Children make good progress given what they know when they start and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The garden area and resources do not always help develop the learning for some children who enjoy playing outside.  Children are not always able to find or use resources that help develop their learning and play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 develop children's outdoor play experiences more effectively to support those who prefer to learn outside  ensure that children can use resources when appropriate to help support their learning and play activities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector took account the views of parents spoken to during the inspection.  The inspector sampled documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures, and evidence of self-evaluation.  The inspector observed the children in the inside and outside environment.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has good understanding of her role and supports children's care and development well. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of signs which may indicate a concern about a child's welfare and knows the procedure to follow if required. The childminder ensures that her home is safe for the children, and parents are effectively informed about any accidents or medication administered. The childminder undertakes training to develop her knowledge and has successfully improved upon her service. The childminder utilises the views of parents more effectively, for example, using a parent questionnaire to support the self-evaluation of the service and make improvements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has developed ways to assess what children know when they start and completes ongoing assessments to check their progress. She plans a variety of activities and outings to ensure children are suitability challenged. For example, they attend the soft-play centre to support their physical development. She encourages their communication skills. For example, she uses lots of discussion to help them learn new words and express themselves clearly. The childminder has developed good links with local schools and nurseries to support the children's continual learning. For example, she plans activities based on topics of study at the nursery school. The childminder knows the children well and uses knowledge of their interests to plan enjoyable and interesting activities that promote their good learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are well behaved and have good relationships with each other. The childminder encourages children to share and be respectful of others in order to develop good social skills. Opportunities to explore other cultures are provided; for example, by trying Chinese food for Chinese New Year to raise the children's understanding of the world around them. Children's care needs are met well by the childminder and they enjoy a kind and secure relationship with her. They separate easily from their parents and enjoy attending. They are encouraged to participate in their own care routines, such as hand washing and tidying up, to support their independence. Children enjoy receiving praise for their achievements.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning. Children are happy and confident learners. They develop their language, number and early writing skills well. Their social and emotional well-being is fostered effectively.
