Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of the action she must take if she is concerned about a child in her care. She reflects on her practice and identifies areas of strengths and areas for development. The childminder keeps her childcare knowledge up to date. For instance, she uses training and networks with other professionals to improve the quality of care and education in her provision. The childminder uses her new knowledge effectively. For example, she now has a greater understanding of how children play in different ways. This has made her even more aware of the importance of following children's own unique preferred styles of learning to help them progress well.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts with children purposefully. She gets down to their level and joins in with their experiences. The childminder is consistently helping children to development good communication and language skills. For instance, she talks to them to provide an interesting narrative during their play. She also uses effective questioning techniques to help children come up with their own ideas and develop their own play. The childminder knows what children like to do and plans activities which follow their current interests. Toys, resources and learning opportunities are plentiful and motivate children to learn.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works closely with parents to support new children to settle when they first start. She discusses children's individual needs with parents and follows established home routines to promote continuity of care. The childminder acts as a positive role model for children. She provides children with meaningful praise which boosts their self- confidence in their own abilities. The childminder supports children to be polite and caring towards one another. This has a positive effect on children, which is demonstrated when they share resources and say 'thank you' to one another. Each day children play outside in the fresh air. For example, they play in the well-resourced garden and have regular visits to parks and soft-play centres. Children also go on outings where they learn about the world around them. For instance, the childminder arranges visits to the library and shops and trips to Windsor Castle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning. They show sustained levels of interest during their play and activities. Children show an interest in colour, shapes and numbers. They excitedly tell the childminder they have made a star out of dough. All children make good progress from their starting points. They gain the skills they require for further learning and moving on to school when the time comes.
