This provision is good
n The childminder provides children with a welcoming and homely environment where they feel safe and secure. Children move around the childminder's home freely as they choose where to play. n The childminder has close bonds with the children in her care. She is caring and affectionate, and children enjoy their time with her. Babies laugh in delight as the childminder sings to them and tickles their tummy. n Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder keeps parents informed about what their children have been doing during the day. Parents are very happy with the service the childminder provides. n The childminder has not yet developed highly successful strategies to support parents to extend their children's learning and development further at home. n Although teaching is good overall, some activities are not always stimulating enough to fully engage younger children and promote their learning to an even higher level.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps the children in her care safe. She knows her roles and responsibilities with regard to child protection and wider safeguarding issues. She is aware of the correct procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's well-being. The childminder evaluates and reflects on her practice effectively. She uses the knowledge gained from training to improve her teaching skills. For example, she has implemented strategies such as sound games and 'listening walks' to support children's early literacy development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children in her care very well. She is aware of what they can do and how to help them to progress to the next stages in their learning. She observes children carefully and plans a range of stimulating activities to support their learning and development. The childminder teaches the basics well. Children's communication and language skills are supported using simple worlds and repetition. The childminder provides a running commentary as she plays alongside children in a very natural way. Children take turns and share resources; they extend their physical skills as they energetically join in with the actions to different songs and make vocalisations as they sing along. Children develop their imagination and work cooperatively as they make their own cardboard playhouse, which is eventually turned into a 'rocket'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children learn the importance of being healthy and the childminder provides them with a range of healthy meals and snacks. Children have lots of opportunities to be active as they play in the childminder's garden. They enjoy visiting different places of interest in the local community, including the park, farms and playgroups. This helps them to learn about the wider world around them. Children are well behaved. They listen to the childminder, follow the rules and boundaries in place and know what is expected of them. For example, children help to tidy away resources once they have finished playing with them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They are confident and motivated to learn. They are happy in the childminder's care and enjoy exploring the environment around them. They adore listening to stories and recognise familiar books, asking for their favourites. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and their eventual move on to nursery or school.
