p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an understanding of how to identify and report any concerns about a child's welfare. She knows who to contact should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder monitors children's development closely, which helps her to identify and close any gaps in their learning. She uses daily discussion and diaries to help keep parents well informed about their child's care and learning. Parents state that they are very happy with the service provided. The childminder reflects on the quality of her service, and makes effective plans to improve children's learning outcomes.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder assesses children's starting points using her own observations and information provided by parents. She uses this knowledge to help her plan suitable activities. The childminder contributes well to developing children's early literacy skills. She uses effective ways to promote children's communication skills. For example, she introduces new vocabulary to support children's language development. Young children enjoy listening to stories, looking at the pictures and helping to turn the pages. This helps them to develop their literacy skills. The childminder supports children's early mathematical skills well. For example, children learn about size as they fit play people into a toy bus. The childminder regularly takes children on outings to the local community, where they meet other people and learn about the world around them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works in partnership with parents to make sure children's daily routines are followed. This helps children to feel comfortable and secure. Children's behaviour is good. They make choices freely during play activities and express their preferences confidently. The childminder recognises children's achievements, giving regular praise to build their self-esteem. She helps children to understand how to lead healthy lifestyles. For example, older children have many opportunities to tackle obstacle courses when at the park, to support them in developing their physical skills. Children develop an appreciation of healthy exercise and activity through, for instance frequent walks and visits to parks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are happy, active and confident learners. They communicate and listen well. Young children enjoy looking at books, handling them carefully and talking about the pictures. Older children learn early mathematical skills as they experiment with timing each other during physical activities. They make good progress from their starting points and develop a good range of skills and abilities to support the next stage in their learning, including being ready for school.
