Outcomes for children Requires improvement

p.1

This is a provision that requires improvement

n The childminder does not always keep a written record of accidents or injuries that children receive, which is a breach of welfare requirements. n The quality of teaching is not consistently good. The planning of group activities and daily routines does not take into account the differing needs and abilities of children. Consequently, during these times, children do not receive enough support to help them make good progress. n Partnership working with other professionals is not fully established. This means children do not benefit from consistent continuity or a shared approach to achieving the best outcomes for children's learning. n The childminder is developing self-evaluation along with her assistants. However, this is not fully established so that all weaknesses are identified and addressed in a swift manner.

p.1

It has the following strengths

n The childminder has made a number of improvements since the last inspection. Risk assessment is now effective. The childminder identifies and minimises all potential hazards. She ensures children are well supervised at all times. Children are kept safe as they play. n Together with her assistants, the childminder has developed effective ways to accurately identify children's achievements and their next steps in learning. The progress checks for children age between two and three years are completed and shared with parents. n The childminder and her assistants are kind, calm and sensitive in their approach to children. Children settle well in their care and develop strong bonds with them.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date keep a written record of accidents or injuries involving children 09/04/2019

improve the planning of any adult-led learning activities to ensure children make good progress. 26/04/2019

p.3

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.3

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector observed the quality of teaching. She assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector spoke to the childminder's assistant and interacted with children during the inspection. n The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder. n The inspector looked at relevant documentation. This included evidence of the suitability of the childminder, assistants and adults living on the premises.

p.3

Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has met all of the actions raised at the last inspection, which has contributed to safeguarding children. Most required documentation is now kept. However, the childminder fails to keep a written record of all accidents or injuries. That said, there is no significant impact on children's well-being as parents are informed. The childminder ensures suitability checks are completed for her assistants. She and her assistants undertake first-aid and safeguarding training. The childminder and her assistants have a suitable understanding of child protection and know how to deal with any concerns they may have about a child. The childminder has begun to use self-evaluation to monitor the quality of care and learning. However, she has not identified the need to improve partnership working with other professionals.

p.4

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement

Some group activities, such as story time, are not planned well enough to meet the differing needs and abilities of all children. Consequently, younger children wander away and do not benefit from taking part. Some older children show good levels of interest and engagement in the activity. However, at times, their engagement is disrupted due to distractions from other children. Children's self-initiated play is supported well. Children play imaginatively and creatively using the variety of resources available to them indoors and outdoors. The childminder and her assistant show good levels of interest in what children do and say. They engage children in conversation and encourage children to use new vocabulary. This includes mathematical language to describe size, shape and number.

p.4

Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement

Due to weaknesses in the planning of daily routines, children are not consistently supported to be active and motivated learners. For example, younger children are brought away from their play too soon to wait in line to wash their hands before eating their snack and lunch. The childminder provides some opportunities for children to learn about the importance of healthy eating and drinking frequently. She works in partnership with parents to identify and meet any specific dietary needs. Children enjoy being active outdoors and going on trips in the local community. The childminder and her assistants use a positive approach to manage any disruptive behaviours. They spend time talking to children to help them to learn how to express their feelings appropriately.

p.4

Outcomes for children require improvement

Some children are not as well prepared for the next stage of their learning and school as they could be. That said, children show they feel safe and secure. They listen to and follow instructions well, such as finding a cushion to sit on and helping to tidy away toys. Children are learning how to control their feelings and behaviours. They enjoy demonstrating what they know and can do. This includes naming shapes, such as semi- circles, identifying numbers and writing their names.
