This helps to build successfully on children's confidence and self-esteem. n The childminder promotes children's personal and social skills well. She demonstrates very good skills in teaching children how to adopt strategies to help them understand how to manage their feelings. Children learn to behave well and make positive relationships with others. n The experienced childminder uses her qualifications and understanding of children's development effectively to plan a range of activities that meet their individual needs. For example, she makes good use of conversations and questions to extend children's learning. All children make good progress from their starting points. n The childminder works effectively in partnership with parents so that all children

receive strong, tailored support for their learning and development. For instance, parents value the regular assessment sheets she provides, which highlight activities to encourage children's learning at home. n The childminder has a clear focus to reflect upon and monitor her provision effectively. She undertakes continuous professional development to benefit children's learning and care. For example, she has undertaken research to provide resources to improve children's physical development and balance skills. n Occasionally, the childminder misses chances to extend younger children's ideas and learning when they are involved in different activities of their own choosing. n The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to promote older children's use of mathematical language and to help them understand the link between letters and their sounds.

n The inspector observed activities and the quality of teaching throughout the setting. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder and spoke to children at appropriate times throughout the session. n The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. n The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's development records, suitability checks and policies and procedures, including safeguarding and risk assessment. n The inspector took into account the views of parents from written testimonials and feedback questionnaires.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The dedicated childminder successfully maintains good standards in children's learning and care. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is confident about the procedures to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare. She attends considerable training each year to refresh and enhance her knowledge, which supports children's welfare and safety. For instance, she has updated a policy to explain to parents how she must comply with the General Data Protection Regulation. The childminder makes regular contact with other childminders to ensure she constantly reflects on the service she provides. She frequently seeks parents' opinions and asks them to complete feedback questionnaires. This helps her evaluate and improve her provision. Recommendations from the last inspection have been met. For example, the childminder uses a wide range of resources, activities and discussions with children that

reflect the diversity of people and their lives.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Overall, the childminder's teaching is strong. She plans activities to support children's individual needs and next stages in learning and to identify and address any gaps in learning. For example, she provides opportunities for children to build on their small- muscle skills, such as manipulating dough. Children are keen for her to play alongside them as they create shapes, and she asks them questions about the models they make to support their learning. The childminder encourages children to be confident communicators and provides many opportunities for children to develop their early language skills. For instance, she introduces new words to younger children and interacts continually with older children as she encourages them to follow their play ideas.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children learn as they confidently explore their environment and know to seek out help and reassurance when needed. The childminder ensures children's hygiene and self-care skills are highly developed. For example, she helps children to recognise their own achievements and growing independence skills. The childminder carries out thorough safety checks to help ensure that potential hazards are minimised. She supports children's physical health and well-being very effectively. For example, children enjoy daily opportunities to be active and play outdoors. She helps children learn how to take risks and stay safe, and encourages older children to respect the needs of younger ones.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and well-motivated to learn. They gain the physical, social and communication skills they need for their next stage of learning and their eventual move to school. For example, children enjoy group time and learn to listen to instructions. They have fun as they sing action rhymes and answer questions about the date and weather. Children build good relationships with their peers. For example, older children negotiate with friends, asking if they wish to play with bricks or help them feed the animals in a pretend farm. Younger children choose and share books readily together.
