qualification and a foundation degree. She uses training to improve her work with the children. In particular, she has developed skills to support children to be confident talkers.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make best use of all opportunities to develop younger children's creativity and self-expression, for example, through following their own ideas during art and craft activities.  There are fewer opportunities for children to gain an understanding of people in the wider world, beyond their immediate family.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase opportunities for children to express their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through expressive art and design  strengthen opportunities for children to gain an understanding of people in the wider community, to build further their understanding of the world.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector looked at the areas of the home used by children.  The inspector observed the childminder playing with the children during a range of activities.  The inspector reviewed the childminder's policies, looked at children's records and checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder.  The inspector discussed activities with the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents expressed in their written responses.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder uses training to ensure she has the most recent information to protect children's well-being. She has a very clear understanding of how to implement requirements. The childminder uses robust methods to monitor and evaluate her work with the children. She quickly identifies any areas for improvement and continues to effectively develop her provision. Parents' comments show that they are happy with the care and education the childminder provides.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The experienced childminder supports children well and extends their learning through good teaching methods. Children's language skills develop well as they talk to the childminder. For example, children thoroughly enjoyed choosing a toy from a singing sack and identifying a song. Children learn the words and follow the actions as they all sing together. Children gain good early mathematical skills. They count well with the childminder and begin to identify different sizes and shapes. Children play with the toy zoo animals and listen when the childminder reads stories about wild animals.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides stimulating and very welcoming play areas. Children learn to manage their own safety and develop their independence; for example, at snack time, children cut up their fruit using safety knives with skill and care. Children learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. They have healthy and well-balanced meals and snacks, and learn good hygiene routines. Children develop good physical skills during daily opportunities for outdoor play and exercise. They behave well and develop concern for the feelings of others. Children gain the self-assurance and necessary skills for the next stage in their learning.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The children make good progress in all areas of their learning. The childminder monitors their development, and can quickly see any gaps in their learning and provide extra help. Children securely gain the skills they need for moving on to school.
